9 Utah Points

I need some help. I'm running out of time. What unit should I put in for a nice buck? Should I keep trying for the Henry's Or should I use my points on the Book Cliffs or Paunsaugunt or even the west desert? Vernon

I'd say stick with the Henry's and don't even consider burning 9 points on Vernon. The Bookcliff's is a great hunt and you'll see a lot of mature bucks, but I think you have a lot better chance at a true once-in-a-lifetime buck on the Henry's. Just my $.02

forget the Henrys its 1 tag!(it will go to max pts guy or gal)the Pauns w/muzz weapon would be an easy draw! but nothing is for sure! if you don't shoot a smoker(muzzle loader) then any weapon Book cliffs!

how will it go to the max points guy or gal? I thought the way the point system works is that if you have 9 points, your name is in the draw 9 times. I have been wrong before but from what I understand that is how it works.
but the draw odds for the henrys any weapon is 1 in 140 or so. which is probibly the worst ratio there is, I have heard of people taking 20 years to draw out in pahvant for elk and that ratio is only 1 in 85 or so.
I have to agree though that henrys would be the best place to get a true trophy, the book cliffs you could go shoot yourself a real nice 3 or 4 year old buck, but in the henrys you could have a chance at 5 and 6 year and older bucks.
If I had 9 points I would do henrys

Last year, the non-resident who drew had 10 points. It's possible, but tough.
If you are a resident, then definitely stick with the Henry's!!!

I'm gonna disagree about the Henries deal with 9 points. Unless you've got about 50 years to wait to get into the max point game. Best unit w/o a doubt, but unless you've got atleast 11 points, you've got a lot of people inline infront of you

Never know though, you may get lucky on a random tag.

In my opinion life is too short to spend waiting on some of these high demand units when there's plenty of other good areas, and you stand the chance of drawing several tags in the amount of years it'll take you to draw a Henries rifle tag.

Archery maybe???

I'll swap you elk points for deer points. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to shoot a big elk but now I wish I would have built deer points first. The Books are pumping out some good bucks and if you hunt with a smoke pole the pauntsaguant in the rut would be hard to beat.
