All,

just wondering if anyone had any success on the first cow hunt on 9mile or has seen any cows recently? I have the second season cow tag that runs Jan 1-31. Any help on areas or where anyone has seen them lately is much appreciated! (I posted this in the general forum as well.)

Thanks,

Don't know if duchesne is in your unit or not but there are a lot of elk just east of duchesne. Got one with the truck Monday night.

justr_86,

I think that's part of one of the anthro units...9 mile range creek is more south of that. Thanks for the input...maybe an Anthro hunter will be curious to hear that, though.

Thanks,

I had a late season Bull tag, the elk were hanging around the cold springs WMA. I have a friend that was up there this weekend and said the elk were also in Ccottonwood Canyon in the Cedars. If you can get up there I do not think you will have a problem getting a cow. Good Luck

Last time I had that tag was in the late '90's but there were elk right at the top in 2 feet of snow, with 5 ft drifts. That was right before Christmas. If you don't find them low I'd look higher--might take a snow machine.

We only saw about three good bulls and never got on them, I ended up shooting a 5x6 not very big. There were alot of elk but most were cows and small bulls.

TATONKA1973,

thanks for the input. I've been up there before in that cottonwood area, so I should have no problem finding the area. Thanks a ton!
