Elk Unit for the disabled

I'm calling for everyones knowledge on the best unit for someone with muscular sclerosis who really wants to kill a good bull. He should be right there in the mix with the max point holders. He really can't hike more than 20-30 yards without collapsing so it is going to be a tree stand or sit on a hill side kind of deal. It will be a rifle hunt and from what I know he can still shoot steady. He can ride on a 4-wheeler and I think he has permits from Forest service to go just about anywhere. This is probably the last year he will try and put in for his elk hunt and I just hate to see all those years of applying go down the tubes because of some debilitating condition. So it is going to have to be a unit he can draw for an absolute certainty. Any unit or CWMU that would lend it self to these circumstances.tkx

Boy that is a hard one. Maybe you could look at a unit with some private land. A land owner may allow you to take a guy in those kind of circumstances.

Does your friend qualify for the extension? Regardless, I would look at Monroe or Book Cliffs just because of the wheeler access and abundance of elk close to the roads. Just my opinion.

At this point he would not get an extension but that could change. And yes this is a Utah resident applying for a LE Elk Any weapon hunt. Thanks for your advice please keep the ideas coming.

If this is going to be the last year he puts in then you should also consider putting him in in NM for a MI hunt. there are a few great tags and good access to water tanks in those units if you need info PM I would be glad to help here in NM.

Check before you apply for the Monroe unit. I know the game warden that patrols part of that area. He said that they are having so many problems with ATV's up there that they are going to be closing most of the ATV trails on the Monroe. I don't know if they have started yet, or when they plan on starting to close them, but he said thats the plan.
