Does anybody have any experience with Konus Spotting Scopes? I work with a guy that shoots alot and he uses a Kowa and he stated some fellow shooters bought one of the Konus20-60X80. They were set up side by side and he said there wasn't a big deal of difference between the two. His comment was for under $200.00 he doesn't see the extra dollars for the Kowa over the Konus.

madmike, I used to buy cheap Walmart optics and could not see a difference in high end optics and low end optics. After a year using these cheap optics they would fall apart or get fuzzy and I always had to close one eye to see adequately through them. I thought people were crazy if they spent $100.00 for a spotting scope or binoculars. But after years of shooting forkies and spikes I knew that I was somehow missing the boat. I was lucky to see a 4 x 4 in a whole hunting season. I finally started researching how other people were successful in harvesting a big buck every year. Well just about all of those people had quality optics and I should add that they knew how to use them. So I researched optics for a year and this is what I found.......cheap optics may seem to perform well in the store when you buy them but deteriorate quickly over a year or two. I found also that you can go to Sportmans Warehouse and take about 10 pair of binoculars outside with you and compare them as it is getting dark. You will find that the more expensive the glass is the better it performs. And ask yourself this....will that quality be there 5 or 10 years from now? This is where the manufacturers warranty comes into play. Buy something with a great warranty and check out thier reputation for honering the warranty. I have never heard of Konus and they may be a great pair of glass with a great warranty but research is important. I suggest buying something with a well established reputation for quality and customer support. Names like Leupold, Windriver, Pentax, are a couple that come to mind. Of course you also got the high end optics as well. But you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to optics. Hope this helps. fatrooster.

I forgot to mention that my hunting has changed dramatically since I bought good optics. I now will see anywhere from 10 to 50 bucks, many of them quality 4 x 4's, in a day. fatrooster.

Drew,
How you been lately, seen any bucks out there on the wintering range yet?
How is "grumpy" doing, has he got that new place built yet over the line? Need to call them and see how they are doing.

Brian, as a matter of fact I have seen a very nice typical up on Harrison Pass just last week. He had deep forks and good mass. I'm guessing he will score in the high 180's and maybe even 190ish. I've seen a video that another guy took of a pretty nice nontypical and a narrow but very tall 4 x4 up on Harrison also. We just got hit with snow and the deer are lying low now but before the snow I was seeing several hundred deer a day.
I haven't seen the grumpy guy lately but I'm sure he's still kickin' and raisin' hell.
Where are you putting in for tags this year? fatrooster.
