Hello all,
New member here needing some guidance. I am looking for someone who is familiar with 5b north and or 6a in Az.
Specifically, if motels in the area within reasonable distance to hunting. The Mrs. need some comfort. Any other thoughts regarding the unit/s for the late rifle hunt would be appreciative.
Thank you.

You can base in any one of a few dozen motels Flagstaff for 5BN or stay at the more rustic Mormon Lake Lodge.

For 6A, the above or any of a few of other places along I17 such as Camp Verde. It just depends on what part of 6A you plan to hunt.

How To Hunt Coues Deer

Munds Park for 6A. Sleep Inn in Flagstaff for 5BN. Mormon Lake for both units.

Thanks folks. Anyone have any thoughts on either unit. Specifically for a 270-300 class bulls, terrain that could be glassed and moderate terrain.
thanks again.

Between the two areas it really depends on how the weather has been preceding your hunt. Both hold fair numbers of elk, but this year we have had quite a bit of snow and the elk have moved to lower elevations. The last few weeks for example a lot of elk have moved to the "fringe" areas where the junipers meet the pines or lower into the junipers. A friend was out last week and saw 4 separate herds all in the juniper flats/ridges in the 4000-5000 ft range of 6A. When the weather stays warmer and there hasn't been a good snowfall of at least a foot that stays on the ground, the elk will stay at the higher cooler elevations and the lower portions of the units may hold a few younger bulls and some small groups of cows, but no real numbers to speak of. This pretty much holds true any year and the weather is key. As far as motels, it shouldn't be a problem with either. Just depends on which unit and which portion of the unit/area you hunt. Or, let her really enjoy "your" hunting trip and take her to a resort/spa in Sedona and let her get pampered for a couple of days. She may just insist you do more hunting!

NorthernAZHunter has a great Idea. a Big +! on that.

I archery hunted 5BN last year. If I did it again I would problably look at finding a cabin to rent in the Mormon Lake area. Send me a PM if you have any other questions about my hunt. Good luck!
