IDAHO F&G ATV SURVEY

I could only geet to 46 before my finger cramped up.I,m sure old Bessy will counter our votes tho...Devlin

That's one solid "hell yes" ban 'em all posted (with a thoughtfully written explanation).

I couldnt agree more with the statement that IdahoFG has received more complaints about ATV use than any other topic in their research for there mule deer initiative...because they are the #1 factor!

Ban em all...other states please take note!

What a moronic survey... absolutely no prevention of abuse to it... I just wrote a script that keeps resending the POST command for the page...

1,500,000 posts for no restrictions and counting... ^.^

This was my comment: Invoke a land use fee for all ATV's to cover the cost of policing ATV's and to repair some of the damage's they incur on the environment...

in Calif, they have invoke a law for horsebakers in the sierra's to strap a chit bag on the rear end of your horse...how rediculos must we get thinking were going to bring back good deer numbers...

DallanC-

You really want the only limitation on where ATV's can be driven to be the capacity of the machine? You really want all areas of public lands open to unlimited ATV travel without restrictions?

Please clarify.

Also, i do agree that that survey is stupid without a limitation on voting...i hope nobody puts too much weight to it whatever the results end up...but i do agree with the premise of the survey which is people are sick of ATV use and abuse.

I have always said, in every ATV thread that ATVs should never be taken into a wilderness area. In fact I proposed that anyone caught on an ATV within a wilderness area A) loose said ATV, B) be fined the cost to air lift said ATV out.

Nat Forest is a whole different ballgame. National forests were created to stop development of all land mass so we could have renewable resources (ie: wood and game). They are by definition "multi-use". Currently National forests are allowed to be logged and that logging process usually creates more damage than ATVs.

IMO, the single largest offenders of motorized vehicles off road are the snowmobile crowd. Its amazing where the "super sled" people are taking them anymore... wilderness area or normal forests, you can see tracks everywhere. I cant remember seeing a single message on them here though.

I disagree and IMO, I think its already too late for the anti-ATV crowd. I know tons of "atv weekend warriors" who couldnt care less about hunting, but they are up tearing it up every weekend. The "anti atv" crowd can try and get some regs put in place but if it were put to a global vote today, I think the ATV'ers will win... there are just too many now. ATVs are the modern day horse. One example of this is the recient REOPENING of CLOSED trails in the forest near my house... trails that have been close for 15 years or more, now open for motorized use.

Comparing ATV use to snowmobiling?? Common your reaching. People sitting on butt creating new trails etc, the animals have no escape. Russ

I stand by what I said. More people go offroad and into wilderness areas on snowmobiles than ATVs... I am not condoning EITHER type of vehicle abuse however.

When I get home I am gonna do that survey 100 times in favor of the pro atv guys!

BAN THESE LOWLIFE LAWBREAKING BASTARDS OFF THE FOREST PERMANANTLY!!!

SORRY JACKMASTER!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WILLING TO SHOW ANYBODY THAT WANTS TO SEE IT, MAJOR DAMAGE DUE TO NO LAW ENFORCEMENT,I'LL LET YOU GUESS WHAT THE DAMAGE LOOKS LIKE!!!

Not condoning snowmobiles either but did you see their tracks after the snow melted or were they chasing animals?????

There's no reason hunters need to go off road with ATV's when on public land. I think even hunters who use ATV's for hunting in Idaho will support this, or if not, they should. They're not trying to ban them. All this is doing is requiring people to stay on the roads while hunting. Seems very reasonable to me. Hopefully more states will follow in Idaho's footsteps.

Yes I've seen snowmobiling shed hunters chase deer.

hmmm it wasnt my intent to turn this into an anti-snowmobile thread... sorry LOL

I SAW JESSIE JACKSON ON A SNOWMOBILE WITH AL SHARPTON ON BACK IN VEHICLE RESTRICTED AREA.....
RM

JACKMASTER!!!

YOU GONNA TUNE???

OR JUST LET IT HAPPEN???

THE ONLY bobcat WONDERING???

Atv's and motorcycles are a problem!! Can you ban them? NO! However you can regulate the jackasses that make new trails everytime they go to the hills. "We" and when I say WE I mean humans in general abuse everything we have a chance to. Don't get me wrong everyone is not a WE. But really how many of us would shoot 5 deer if they gave us tags for them, knowing we can't afford to kill that many deer. Not all would but some would. Same thing with the Atv's we don't all pound every hill we see, but some do. Regulate yes! Ban no! I hate more regulations but I also hate to see the new trails poping up because someone just don't feel like walking.

I say let the Atv guys stick to the roads. Most of them never get off the machine anyway. Thats ok with me. It just means less guys walking which means less presure in the backcountry.

Those of you that oppose the F&G's ATV restrictions probably
don't know what the F&G are resricting. The F&G can't make it
illegal for someone to drive a four wheeler on National Forest
or BLM land. The F&G are just making it illegal to drive a
4-wheeler with a gun on the rack unless your on a road open to
the travel of a full sized truck. The only guys that would
oppose this rule are the ones that hunt from the seat of their
4-wheeler.

where did you see that in the survey..?..

It says in the explanation. Did you read it or just take survey.

"The rule states motorized vehicles used for hunting are limited to established roads open to motorized vehicle traffic and capable of travel by full-size automobiles. Hunters are still permitted to use their ATVs to retrieve game where such use is permitted by the land management agency"

MOTORIZED VEHICLES USED FOR HUNTING MEANS IF YOU HAVE A GUN ON YOUR QUAD YOU AINT GOING INTO THE WOODS WITH IT. IF YOU HAVE A GUN ON YOUR QUAD YOU MUST STAY WHERE ONLY FULL SIZE AUTOMOBILES CAN TRAVEL.

I just did another 100 or more.......at this rate I may have made so much of a pro quad stink that they may never have any type of quad poll!

Fellas,

I attempted to note the "flaw" with the F&G survey. This is the response I got from the fella in charge of it:

"-----------------------------------------------------------"
Monte,

We do monitor IP addresses for comments. That doesn't solve everything
though. We will occasionally get a handful of responses from the same
IP address with an identical, or nearly identical letter, but each
"signed" by another member of the family. I'm not sure how we could
ever sort out what is legitimate.

One protection I do have, however, is the randomized mail survey we sent
out to 2,000 deer & elk hunters who hunted in the region last year.
This effort should do a very good job of providing representative
perspectives of our hunter population. Hopefully, percentages from our
on-line self-serve survey will track closely with results of the random
survey.

--Jon Rachael
Regional Wildlife Manager
Southwest Region

NOTE WHERE HE STATES "I'm not sure how we could ever sort out what is legitimate." Or where he says the surveys are "signed". Did anyone see a section to SIGN the survey??

My thought: Since this is a survey about hunting, why not get hunters to enter a valid hunting license number (even if expired from 2005) to take the survey. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM??????

I was one of the "random" people who recieved it in the mail. I haven't seen the online version of it, but the "mailed" version didn't offer specific options to my thoughts. Only possbile sugestions as potential limitations ragarding how I felt ATV use did or didn't effect or hurt the deer hunting in the region. I am one of the few that gets off the damn thing to hunt. I'm only on the trails with it and walk from there. I have seen far too many ATV and cycles in places they shouldn't ever be and have ruined the hunt after just hiking in the dark for hours. I say regulate the use, but enforce it if your going to regulate. Otherwise things will just stay the same with people rolling the dice hoping to not get caught. Generally when I see one of those things in the backcountry where it is illegal, the spark plug end up in my pocket. That should make the trip out interesting, especially after I've called the ranger to check on it!

You are joking right? Did you know that the tracks go away when the snow melts, leaving no permanent damage, unlike the ATV????
