Guess the youth bill in Utah passed!! No age limit for young hunters for small game. To hunt big game it was 14 now it is 12. However 12 and 13 year olds can not apply for Once in a life time permits or LE Tags. I know your pissed Bess. But I didn't do it.. I tried to post this in General but it won't let me post in General. Why is that?

I knew it passed the house... when did it go before the Senate?

Good news! I'll get my daughter applying next year and hopefully in a few years we'll draw a good tag.

MY 12 YRS OLD WAS HAPPY ABOUT THAT!
all he wants to put in for is Bull Elk!
So may be he can have a "few" chances to hunt the nations best Elk bulls with out spending his college fund!

I'm not sure it passed the senate yet. I seen it passed the house, but never seen anything about the senate. I could be wrong though.

rut...
I understand if it changes(assuming no more hurdles)
then when it in effect I can enroll him in LE draws
...true?
I assumed it to be next year!

I just read it in the paper. I know it went through the house but not sure about senate. The way I read it He will not be able to go LE untill he is 14. I am not sure when it will take effect but I would think hunt general this fall.
I will see if I can find a link.

Bill passed the House and is in the Senate. I wasn't a landslide in the House either, but should make it through the senate.

The bill lowers the age to 12 (in the calendar year), but yes, limits LE tags until 14 (calendar year 14, so if you turn 14 anytime before Dec. 31st you can put in for LE tags).

If it passes it will become state law and should go into effect immediately for this fall. I would think antleress tags and general tags over the counter would be available.

The grey area for me is the bill says no LE, CMWU, Premium tags, etc., but doesn't say anything about points. I holding out hope my soon to be 12 year old can buy points for 2 years even though he can't put in for LE tags. We will see.

Finally, they figure lowering to 12 will only add 1000 additional hunters. That seems low. Are they off or is this our bleak future hunters out there?
