Does anyone have any feedback on the tag application service that Garth Carter supplies or any other tag application service? Is this beneficial and is it worth the money? Or is it just lazy hunters that dont want to have to remember to put in by a certain date?! Any feedback would be great.

I've looked into it and it is a very good service with good information for the most part. But It aint cheap. Only you can answer the question if the convenience he provides is worth it.

For me personally, the answer is No. Plus, I actually enjoy learning about each states system and studing draw odds, statistics and land status.

I agree- however, last year I made the mistake of not remembering that Utahs applications are early (Jan 31) and I didnt get my app in on time so I lost out on a bonus point. Its things like that that make it worth it. Im 34 and I dont want to wait until Im 50 to get the tag og a lifetime! I want to build points and I dont want to lose any more years like I did last year. Thanks for the input.

Wiszard,
Carter's service is expensive and they don't float the tag fee for you. For roughly the same price, Cabela's will do everything and send in the tag fee for you to those states that require it. Tag services, IMO, have their place. I used to use Cabela's to float the fees for me but now I have the cash to do it on my own.

I think those services can be helpful , but theres a boat load of guys here that are also willing to help , at a cheaper price too . Can't draw a map to the monster buck or bull , but there is a few guys willing to help through email and even over threads at these forums . I only put in here in NM and elk in AZ , but still will call the G&F and get phone #s' to the wardens that work the areas I'm interested in or have drawn . Haven't got to call AZ yet but in a year or five more I should be in good shape to make that call....

Garth says that if you are watching TV in the evenings, you don't need his application service. However, if you are taking time away from your business, you should use an application service. I get the Huntin' Fool, call the Carters occasionally, and apply myself.

Other than one of these guys, the rest have never subscribed to Carter. The hundered bucks is nothing if you want to hunt other states...It is very complicated as every state is different. No matter what anyone says you have a edge with them...Plus you find out about any state changes,as well as new hunts in states that most people dont even here about.I dont remember the exact numbers, but its staggering how many Carter Members draw the best tags out west...When you draw a tag they give you names and numbers of any member that has hunted that state/unit before...
You call and pick there brain... Thats worth a lot.Plus they list all the banquet dates and what tags they are Auctioning and raffleing. If you want to be on top of whats happening out west nobody else comes close...You could learn some of this by calling different states but your phone bill alone will be more than 100 bucks..Trust me i know...

"Other than one of these guys, the rest have never subscribed to Carter"

Not true.

I've been a member for 2 years and love the Huntin Fool. I was adressing the question of the application services offered by Garth.

Bottom line: the magazine service (Huntin Fool) is well worth the $100. Carter's application service is not worth it IMO as there are beter ones out there.

I enjoy the magazine with all the best choices for hunts, but for an application service I can't see myself spending for it. It's enjoyable just to try and pick something out for yourself. After they have posted there choices, most of there top picks, have quite a few people applying for them, so!!!! Also, after getting the magazine for the past 4 years or so I've noticed a trend in there reviews of states. They are almost all the same from one year to another, with a few exceptions. Nevada is almost exactly. This past year they stopped putting in all the landowner tags and who you can call. My guess is that they are making money off that now. The magazine seems to have acutally gone downhill a little. They need to put more hunt unit info in there publications to make it a little more interesting. They do have allot of advertisement. Also, I was wondering how all the people who had won hunts from there raffle had done. Haven't heard much of anything about it as of yet. Or maybe I'm not reading very carefully.

Thanks guys for the info. Theres a lot to digest. I had noticed the Cabelas service and I really like Cabelas so I may dig into that a little more. As far as The Huntin Fool, I like the magazine but Im not sure how much the tag app. service costs. I think I need to do some digging into it. Thanks again for your responses. This is, for the most part, a very helpful sight.

I ran into garth and somone he was hunting with in nevada a few years ago. Really nice guy, I'd go with his service after looking into it.

I believe it's well worth the $100.

It gives you a good feel for what's going on across the West, and where they are promoting hardest, ie where not to put in for.

I'm not big on the application service, it may be good for some guys, but not worth the money in my opinion.

One thing I have noticed lately is a flood of giveaway copies. Kind of decreases the value of it, and makes those who have paid $100 bones a bit po'd (myself included). But, that being said I still think it's money well spent.

With all of the new websites coming online that offer very easy to understand breakdowns of drawing odds and informtional websites such as this, the magazine may lose it's appeal to some degree, but it does have good articles and pics too.

Like everthing else, its only a tool to use and nothing more. Well worth a hundred bucks.

Just trying to be funny, and .... it's a long time to huntin season! Good hunting.

Cass- How is that arrogant? What do you mean by that? Can"t we have fun and express our sense of humor? Some may not think its funny but I'll bet some did. You cant please everybody all of the time!

Wizard, to be fully honest, I was taking a hopefully funny swipe at Cass. If he felt slighted by it, I apologize. He has the reputation of somewhat exaggarating at times. He probably really met Garth, but you know the story of the guy who cried wolf...

Not a problem! I know that at times some guys on this site are a little hard to handle. I thought his comment was directed at me. I like this site a lot and most everyone is good and helpful.
