Whats The Bigger Threat?

This thing with North Korea is really disturbing! The fact they they are willing to have a nuclear war and have the ability to produce these bombs that have enough range to reach the west coast is scary. Is this just a smoke screen of sorts to get our focus off of Iraq or is this completly seperate? What are your thoughts and who do you think we should take out first? My opinion is hammer Saddam 1st then go right at N. Korea. I dont think we should wait for the UN to "allow" us to declare war, Iraq is dragging this thing out and the longer its strung out the more chance N. Korea among others will have a chance to do something drastic. Just my thoughts...

North Korea is suffering from an economy in shambles and is looking for attention and some bargaining power. The world community should put it in China's lap to solve. Saddam is playing "hide and seek" while the rest of the world is asking him to play "show and tell". Turkey screwed up big time eh? Sacrificing 27 BILLION for their muslim holy brothers in Bahgdad. Their stock market dropped 13% today and more to come. "Whoops, can we have a "do-over"? We didn't think you meant we couldn't have the 27 billion." say the Turks.

Does anyone think we sent 250,000 troops and support staff to the middle east just for show? It is going to happen and soon. The Bush administration cannot afford to loose face in the middle east and here domestically and must follow through with their plans of regieme change in Iraq. It will show the rest of those rogue nations that kind of behavior in intolerable in todays world political climate. To do nothing at this point or to back down sends a message that the USA can be buffaloed and we are powerless in the face of an sociopathic, decieptful, brutal, Arab dictator. It gives the rest of those bastards a green light. One at a time and the Korean thing will probably diffuse itself in time with a little aid and money and world attention.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-03-03 AT 08:01PM (MST)[p]N. Korea is the perfect example of why we can't let Iraq go any longer.

If N. Korea wanted to use their weapons and go to war they would have not told us about the weapons. They are attemting to get food and money, using nuclear threats and posturing as threats. They need to be isolated economically, socially, etc. Japan made it very clear that if N. Korea tries any crap they will nuke them into the dirt themselves.

If they do decide to throw their nukes around we have Carter to blame.

Did any of you notice the gift that Russia gave the North Korean President on his Birthday? They gave him a whole bunch of rare horses. What is that all about? Both Russia and China seem to like this guy. That's the real scary thing. Russia is one country trying to stop the US from going after Saddam. Do you think they actually got rid of all their nuclear missles once the USSR crumbled? We're living in crazy days to say the least.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-03-03 AT 09:54PM (MST)[p]We need to skip the aid and money part. Otherwise we are simply giving into there tactics. Carter gave them aid and money as did Clinton and probably Bush I.

I think Buckspy's interpretation is right on..I agree with what he's saying. North Korea is starving and they need money. They will nogotiate something and then they will back off. Russia is in the same boat, they need money pretty bad. If we can nogotiate with them for their oil they'll be happy with us again..I think this show of support against us is just them trying to flex the non existent muscles to the world. In truth they need our help..

I don't think either one of those are the biggest threat to our freedoms and our way of life.. I think the biggest threat comes from our own apathy and lack of loyalty to our forfathers and mothers that died for the freedoms we have today..Especially with the last couple decades...We haven't been in a war since Veitnam and we discraced those veterens when they came back...We are losing our sense of honor and patriotism in our own country...We can't say " The pledge of allegiance" We can't pray in our schools..What's next???. It's ok to burn the flag in public?????. What kind of madness is going through this country?. Its time to be proud of who we are and not let anyone or any country spit in our face anymore...Stand up and be counted.. Stand up for all the veterens 6 feet under that beleived in this country so strongly they gave their lives for it.....Keith 46.

I'm really impressed with the responses. It shows that citizens are not geting all their info from the main stream media and can think for themselves. Peace is maintained by the aggressive use of force.

BCboy,

There buying millions of dollars of Russian hardware (AK47's, RPG and so on), that is why they love him so much. In 1969 the North Koreans shot down one of our military planes killing all 30 on board. It looks as if there testing the water and seeing how far they can push the envelope. I think we should worry more about them then Iraq, but we definitely need to deal with them as well. War is on the horizon, and we need to support our boys over there!
GOOD POST!

LAST EDITED ON Mar-04-03 AT 06:18PM (MST)[p]In my honest opinion, Tony Blair was correct in quoting Churchill when Churchill warned people of Hitler years before the destruction he did, saying that Saddam is no different and needs to be stopped now. As far as N.Korea goes, the only way they will be shut down is if we show a mighty display of power in the korean peninsula, which will wake up China and Seoul both and make them take a real hard look at what is going on. Or, we need to show them that we mean business and preempt an attack on their nuclear facility to get the other countries involved. N.Korea doesn't want to sit down and talk, why should we play into them? Germany, France, Russia- they are all in bed with Saddam, money wise and oil wise, they have too much invested in future payoffs.

All these are good posts.

I think the only reason Russia doesn't like us in Afgan. and pounding Iraq, is the fear of us establishing Military bases so close to home.

Leisure suit Larry is all show and no go. Buckspy is right, N. Korea is looking for attention.

Turkey refusing us to lauch an attack is just an attempt to bargain for more $$$. I bet they change their mind.

Anybody who doesn't think Saddam needs to be made DEAD, take a look at the link provided, and go to the photos of the Kurdish people he gassed. Makes my blood boil. He's an evil person.

I think you have all made good points. I think you have all overlooked the main driver behind all of these incidents however. Everything we see going on and almost everything that goes on in international politics is driven by economics. The reason France and Germany have been so "against" the war in Iraq is that they both have multi-billion dollar deals with Iraq for oil and technology. They provide "humanitarian" technology and Iraq provides oil. Now they are not going to get their oil. If you'll notice, Germany has jumped on the band wagon to the point where they are providing the equivalent to "Special Forces" troops to the "Coallition". Everyone knows that going to war without France is like fishing without your accordian... So who cares...

North Korea is no different. They are litterally starving to death. They need anything they can get to try to survive. If they raise a ruckus.. and the US either backs down and pacifies them with foreign aid, or they sign a non-proliferation agreement (again) then they will stave off the deaths that they are currently incurring. If they really wanted to nuke the south, they would just do it.. without warning. "Why wake a sleeping enemy if your real intent is to kill them?"
