Got a question to ask if someone cares to give me an answer.

I got the applying down and understand all of that, but here is one thing I COULD NOT FIND IN BOOKLET.

For party groups, let say that 2 guys have one (1) PP and two others that want to go in as a group to make it 4, and they have NO Pref. Points, how is the drawing handled concerning the 2 with points and the others without points?

Do the two with points loose them and all four go in equal with NONE, just could not find a thing in book.

If I understand it right they go by the person with the lowest number of points, so the guys with zero would drag the others down to zero. that's how I was told anyway.

As I understand it, that is correct. Read not only the section about group applications, but also the section on preference. In the preference point area, it says bascially that groups have the preference point status of the lowest preference point person on the group.

So if 1 person has 0 and the other 3 people have 4 points, you will go in as a group with 0 point. However, if drawn, the people with 4 will still have 2 points left due to the point banking this year. 0 points needed to draw and 1 extra point for the banking rule.

Actually, they would have 3 points left 0 + 1 = 1, not 2! Sorry, didn't have my calculator!!

Correct,
The lowest point holder's, in the group, point number.

The hunters with points do not lose their points, but the group will take on the lowest number of points in the group. In your example, the group would have 0 points. If the group did not draw then two of the hunters in your scenario would have 1 point for next year and 2 would have 2 points.

I don't want to hijack this thread but I also have a question that relates to this topic.

I live in AZ and have 2 boys who are currently 8 and 10. I want to start building some preference points with them. I would like to go on a good quality deer hunt with them when they are around 16 and 18. Is it possible to start purchasing preference points for them now? I now they are to young to apply and hunt but I just want to purchase points. Or do I have to wait until they are old enough to hunt before I can start purchasing points?

Any information or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

John

You have to wait until they are 12. They don't have to be 12 by the application deadline, they have to be 12 by the season start date.
