My dad and I have 4 points for Nevada and we are non residents. We have no problem hiking in as far as it takes. We are looking for a late season hunt rifle or muzzle loader. I'm not looking for anybody to draw me a map I just wanted to ask if anybody could suggest a unit, I do all the reasearch and leg work. I just want to spend my points wisely. I'm also a do it your self hunter, not interested in landowner tags or guided hunts. I would appreciate any info somebody might have on a unit that I can research. I hunted unit 111-115 about 10yrs ago the early season. But this time Dad and I are looking for a late season hunt.

Thank You

Try the late muzzle loader hunt in 114-115. Season dates are November 4 to 26. If there's weather some good bucks come out of the Great Basin N.P.

Thank You Wes I really appreciate it the advice.

Thank You and good luck with your draws.

Slide...find out how many points you need for muzzleloader in 131-134. If you can swing it let me know. I know an area up there that wont get too much snow to drive them down from archery season. I have seen incredible bucks in this unit and only wish I had a rifle or muzzleloader to take one.

Dwayne, have ya seen many Rams in the 134 portion of the area?

I'm liking the late bow in 102-108 or the mzzldr in 114 but HuntinFool has it (114) as #1 mzzldr hunt so that aint happening!! haha

Please... I actually didnt hunt at all is 134, and did not see any in the other areas as well. As far as late bow in 101-108 what are the dates? As far ad 114 muzzle being #1 in Garths book you have to consider that that area is #1 as far as BC class potential, theres great areas in Nevada for P@Y and BC but usually arent on his list.
Actually 131-134 was his #5 Archery pick last year and I saw some deer that would push 200BC.

Sierra fool, thank you for the info. I will reasearch how many points I need and get back to you.

Thank You Again

Nevada has late dates this year, so most of the units could be considered "late". Also remember that NV goes through each applicants full 5 choices before moving on to the next applicant. So list the best units first and go on from there. I would not be surprised if the biggest bucks come out of the Northeastern units. Area 7 might be a good later choice with the late dates.

Area 6E, 6L, 065, and whatever you decide your last two choices.

Area 6 will be the best area in the state in a couple of years. Garth don't know, he has the $$$$ to hunt all over but for you and me. If area 6 is not on your app. it's a big screw-up on your part.

Hey, I was just looking at this post and was wondering if you knew what the odds of drawing a resident archery tag in this are in this area. I hunted it a few years back and saw a couple of decent bucks but nothing huge. Im not sure where you hunt but ive heard of and seen good sign on tempiute but didnt hunt there. Anyway, if could tell me anything it would be appreciated. Plus, what is "garths book"? Thanks.

Hey, Huntn30inchers, what was the score on that deer you killed in 131 a couple years back?

Those odds on the NDOW bonus point pages are very decieving because they only list first choice unsuccessful applicants, especially for units that most people do not list as a first choice like 101-108. If you add up all the successfuls and then devide that number by all the successfuls+unsuccessfuls for that point class, it shows that the odds may not be as good as they first appear for many units. This is especially true on some muzzleloader and archery hunts that many people list as later choices. I hope that this post is not too confusing.

I hunted 101-108 on the late archery hunt in 04. I burned 4 points to get the tag but a friend got the same tag with 0 points, it's all luck. The numbers of good bucks I saw was excellent. I hunted up until Thanksgiving and again the week after the holiday. They were rutting crazy before I went home for the holiday but it was totally different when I came back. The only problem was the does were grouped up in big bunches and anytime I tried to put a stalk on a good buck, I had to get by several groups of does. I got made every time. I saw 18 bucks 24" or better, 2 right at 30". The deer that don't leave the Rubies or East Humboldts, move down into the bitter brush belt near the bottom of the mountian. The cover in this portion of the mountain is minimal. I drew the early rifle tag last year and contacted everyone list in the Huntin Fool that drew the area the last three years. I talked to 5 different people that had the late archery in 04. 4 of the 5 had the same experence as I did. One group did have success by one hunter putting the stalk on the buck and 2 others covering escape routes (saddles). I don't think I'll hunt it by myself again, just frustrating to blow several stalks each day. Also, be prepared for below 0 weather if you put in for this hunt, It was below 0 in Elko and Ely every day I hunted and I was considerably higher up than these towns.

I've got 6 points and hope this is the year. Unit 6 is always somewhere on our application but we may draw anywhere considering our points. I hope Garth continues to ignore NV 6. But who knows, he screwed me this year with CO unit 21 deer. Now I'll never draw that.

don't be so modest, hntn6inchrs, I personally carried that deer and can guarantee you it was no less than 90 pounds on the hoof.
