Three of us just put in for unit 231 in Nevada for deer. Third try, know nothing about the hunt. Anyone ever had the tag and willing to share their experiences? Thanks.

I have not recieved my nevada apps. in the mail yet either........ Anybody else recieve thier apps yet?

Thanks for nothing as usual. This site has turned in to a joke for some time now!

My hunting partner does the Nevada apps, I do the NM apps. He said we "were in", so EXCUSE ME if I understood it as he already put in. He must of meant he will be taking care of it.

Hope to run into you all in the woods, i'll be the one giving you the 1 finger wave. Don't bother replying if you arn't responding to a question with an answer, we'll all be better off.

Break a leg out there...REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jaybob,

If you are unfamiliar with area 23 This can be a difficult hunt. This last year BLM decided to designate most of the mountain ranges as Wilderness areas (White rock and the Wilson range)as these areas hold most of the 23 deer herd during the early part of the season. I dont want to discourage you on this unit because yes it does hold BIG bucks. If the weather gets cold they will migrate into most of valleys on the South part of 23. Word of advice for area 23 Know it before you hunt it.

I live in Ely,NV and Randy Ulmer took a awsome buck with his bow it scored like 215"-230" or something like that.

yep it was quite a deer chris. I have heard rummors of where in 22 he shot it at. If it's where i'm thinking, dad missed that deer 2 years before ulmer got it.

Locals say Ulmer didn't kill that buck in 23, despite his claim that he killed it on White Rock Peak

Have heard the same thing from locals, that it was videoed some distance from White Rock but still in Unit 231. Makes sense to put out a diversion rumor and you can bet White Rock will be a popular place next year.

Guess it's the name of the game these days, know the unit and success may follow. Go out without info and you're in for tough times. Thanks for the replies, good luck all.

Jaybob, I am not familiar with that unit but I've learned over the last couple of years how to hunt a new area. The first thing I do is buy me the best topo maps I can find. I look for water holes, high mountains and I purposely look for rugged areas with little access. Areas that turn most people off because you have to do some walking to get to them. If at all possible take a scouting trip to the areas you plan to hunt and go from there. Hope this helps. fatrooster.
