I'm hoping to get drawn for a special deer permit for a hunt in the Kashakie Wilderness 12 miles off the Shoshone National forest. Will be hunting about 7,500 feet.Any body ever hunted in or around this area before. The hunt is for Nov 5-11.

In Wyoming, I believe out of staters cant hunt wilderness without a guide. . .

"Roadless areas, in general, represent some of the best fish and wildlife habitat on public lands. The bad news is that there is nothing positive about a road where fish and wildlife habitat are concerned -- absolutely nothing." (B&C Professor, Jack Ward Thomas, Fair Chase, Fall 2005, p.10).

Be ready for rain or snow in November. Do everything in your power to be physically fit. Practice with your weapon. Do all of these things and you will be very happy that you did. fatrooster.

The "Washakie" wilderness is a beautiful spot. I don't believe there are many places in this area below 9,000ft, so be sure to be physically fit. Be prepared for a mix of weather and hunt in partners because of the grizzlies in the area. I hunted there last year and I had no success, but saw plenty of deer. If you hit the weather correctly, and the deer are migrating it can be a good hunt.
