SW Desert Early Rifle

Killed this bull on the early rifle hunt. Was lucky enough to draw one of a few non resident tags for the early hunt with only four points. Scouted a lot before the hunt, but it was very hot and very little rutting activity on this hunt as it was early September and it seems the rut has been getting later and later in Southern Utah. Having never hunted the unit before, and not being able to afford to hire a guide service I am pleased with the results. There are definitely bigger bulls on this unit, but it is a very large area and can be tough to hunt. This bull does not score real great but, it has character and I like the way it looks.

It scored 323 SCI, the taxidermist had it scored for a contest. I didn't have a chance to B&C score it.

The interesting thing it was really hot, for the first three days, and then 30 minutes after I shoot this bull we got the most intense 20 minute thunderstorm I have ever been in.

My grandpa and I were waiting for my dad to come with some sheets and water and knives and stuff and the storm hit so hard with thunder and lightening we had to get to low ground and under a tree.

Lightening was striking all around us within twenty to thirty feet and the thunder was so loud and intense it felt like an earthquake. It was pretty intense.

I never worry about what an amimal scores. If it looks good then go for it. And that is one good looking bull.

Congrats
