Are they good late hunts with desent elk. Looking for some advise dead line is comming still up in the air. Is weather a problem or do you need weather to move them Thanks Mike

If you read most of the replies on here on the other
threads It makes it sound like the late hunt is really bad.
I can tell you that this year I hunted the late hunt and
it was an exciting hunt and we saw a ton of bulls and it was a great hunt to be on.
As always everone wants to hunt the rut but if you
don't want to wait that long I would do a late hunt
anytime.Just my 2 cents drop me an email if you want to know more.

Depends a lot on the unit, but overall the late hunts are way underated. I've said it before-personally I'd take a late hunt over pretty much any early hunt. I've been on a lot of early hunts over the years and for the most part the rut is very hit or miss. You don't have to worry about it late. Bulls dumb up on the winter range just like bucks do on the summer range-Must be a bachelor group thing. It's a whole lot easier to judge a bull when he's standing on a hill side with several others. A lot of little bulls get hammered in the heat of the moment on rut hunts-they all look big chasing cows and bugling. Not to mention cows are just a pain in the butt during the rut. If you can glass you'll do well.

I hunted a late hunt last year and it was fun. I shot my bull on the first day but seen a lot of bulls. You just have to remember the archery hunt, early rifle, and muzzleloader hunts have already taken quite a few big bulls of the unit. There are still big bulls you just need to find them. Plus after you pass up all the raghorns you have to watch for the broken up bulls. I would bet 30 percent of the bulls I seen had some kind of broken antlers.

I had a great time and they are easier to draw then some of the other hunts. It would have been fun hunting bulls in the rut but as a non res with only 5 points I was way behind the point game so I went with the late hunt.

A little weather helps to.
