Any input on these units would be appreciated, is 201 considerably better than 2? Recommended outfitters etc.

201 is a great archery hunt!! Lots of bulls and opportunity to kill a great bull!
If you know how to hunt elk you will not need a guide.

That is one of those "if you have to ask you can't afford it" kind of questions :)

I'm at about 30% draw odds this year. Long wait and still probably going to be waiting some more.

I've grown up hunting 2,10 and 201 have helped my father and multiple people take bulls in all of them along with scouting them every year and if it were up to me I'd hunt 2. I don't get why 201 is thought of as the best of the 3 but i can honestly tell you that all of the units produce quality bulls. There reason I would hunt 2 over 201 is that after spending plenty of time in both i've found the bulls are no bigger in 201 than they are 2. The fact is 201 is a smaller unit which causes for the DOW to give less tags making it harder to draw. Along with 201 contains more private land that requires a large trespass fee to hunt. Where as in 2 for the price of 300 dollars a lady by the name of wanda walker, whom is the largest land owner in the area will let you hunt her entire property. Also 2 is a much larger unit and the access is much better than that of Cold Spring mountain which makes up majority of 201. Myself personally have seen more 350 class bulls come out of 2 since i've been hunting it and my dad took a 370 class bull with his rifle in 07. If you want to see an example of a unit 2 bull ive helped take look at the "elk in the back of trucks" post and you will see the bull in my truck that i helped Kbuck of mm take this past seaon

JD-I tend to agree with Coloradoboy. I think Unit 2 is just as good as Unit 201 and perhaps better once you factor in its size and the fact that is slightly easier to draw. I also think that Unit 2 bulls have slightly more mass. I have hunted Unit 2 three times myself over the past 6 years and have harvested 360, 349 and 330 bulls---2 archery and one muzzleloader. I have also participated in 3 additional elk hunts in both units over the past 10 years and have seen very similar bulls come out of both units. Based on its size and the fact that it is slightly easier to draw than Unit 201, I would give the nod to Unit 2---but that's just my opinion. Both units are wonderful places to hunt---you will have a great time should you draw either one. If you want additional information---shoot me a PM and I will help you out. Good luck in the draw.
