Looks like the economy is effecting the Utah elk and deer conservation tags this year ,check out some of the prices !

Beaver Elk 2009 -21,500 LE Rifle
Beaver Elk-2010- 12,000 LE Rifle

Dutton Muzzleloader Elk-2009-10,000
Dutton Muzzlelaoder Elk -2010-8,000

SanJuan Premium Elk -2009-25,000
San Juan Premium Elk 2010-20,000

Paunsagant 2009 Deer-12,500
Paunsagant 2010 Deer -8,000

Lots of tags still left to be auctioned also.

These are still expensive but there are some bargains out there as there are still big deer and elk in Utah.

Good Luck

LAST EDITED ON Mar-15-10 AT 08:01PM (MST)[p]No doubt the economy sucks and is affecting some of this. Probably most of this.

Has anyone looked at total tag number available to be bought at these events and tried to see if it is too much supply for the given demand that might be causing this drop?

Not starting anything, as there are enough threads about that going on MM right now.

Would just be curious to see how much the Supply/Demand equation might be influencing these prices, if any.

Maybe tag numbers have remained constant, and if so, could probably attribute it all to the economy.

"Hunt when you can - You're gonna' run out of health before you run out of money!"

Where does one find this info. on all the other tags and when and where are the rest of the tags to be auctioned off? Thanks for any info.

If anyone has the total tags they give the Ute tribe I would also love to see it. Including moose and goats on top of the elk and deer for the books and wasatch.

Amen To that Southslope I would love to see that,,, I know for a fact on other species it pretty screwed up I think that the UDWR and the Ute tribe need to get on the same page with many different issues. Hey nice user name by the way-

In the latest issue of Muley Crazy in the mule deer forecast it talks about how this year the Mule deer Permits broke an all time high in 3 states Utah, Colorado, and Arizona as far as $$$$Money$$$$ Goes I mean Utahs Gov tag for deer 260,000 WOW Like Ryan Hatch says it is simply Supply and Demand and that is all that it Boils down to really. The state for the most part is pushing for an increase in elk and with all the elk farms and stuff if somebody wanted to go wack a 400 plus bull its really not that unreachable to someone with deep pockets. This is even the case with shed antlers Elk horns have dropped alot from what I last sold my horns for years ago but the deer have stayed a little closer to what the prices were, No matter how you look at it SUPPLY AND DEMAND is all it is. OH and some deep freekin pockets

So you take the price of those tags, subtract all the cost and fees and salaries for the ORG employees, plus whatever gets sent to other states to start chapters there, consulting fees, and what do you have that could not be raised from just raising the tag fees and doing away with the wealth tags? Looks like wealth tags are not as attractive these days for many reasons

LAST EDITED ON Mar-16-10 AT 07:28PM (MST)[p]Not all are dropping. A buddy of mine was trying to pick up an archery tag and has been watching those.

Dutton Archery 2009: $4500 2010: $7000
Wasatch Archery 2009: $4000 2010: $7000
Boulder Archery 2009: $8100 2010: $11000

Granted some good deals and I've only seen some of the prices posted. It seems like the really expensive have dipped, but middle and bottom tags really haven't changed much or dipped.

ITS CRAZY THE PRICES ARE ALL OVER THE BOARD BUT THERE ARE SOME DEALS YOU GOT TO WATCH FOR THEM.....

CHECK THE SFW SITE AND MULE DEER FOUNDATION SITES FOR A LIST OF TAGS AND DATES OF THE AUCTIONS FOR THOSE THAT WERE ASKING...

A LIMITED ENTRY RIFLE TAG ON THE BEAVER FOR 12K IS A BARGAIN COMPARED TO THE OTHERS THAT SOLD FOR 19K THIS YEAR...

GOOD LUCK GUYS

I bet the reason those archery tags went up is because the hunt goes into the third week of september this year (2010)=a more favorable rut hunt when the bulls are more "callable".

They're doing what they do every year-some are goin hi and some are goin low. It's anyones quess as to where the best prices are goin to be found. On average the SFW banquets tend to be the highest. A few tags slip by at some of the rmef and nwtf banquets, but it seems like it gets harder every year to find a "deal." Just look how high goat and antelope tags have gotten this year. It seems the interest in muley tags is where it's at right now.

The one that killed me was when they auctioned off the Dutton Premium tag right in front of me this year. In 2009 one of the Dutton rifle tags went for $30,000, in 2010 I spend $15,000 on mine and at the expo this year they auctioned off the Dutton premium tag for $11,000! I also saw them sale a san juan rifle tag for $18,000 which usually goes for $35,000. Sure there are bargains to be had if you have a brand new duramax diesel or two sitting around that you don't need.

Stinky get this the Beaver Tag sold for 32,000 a few years back and the LE Premium Tag went for 19k this year and the last LE Rifle slipped by for 12k...on the Beaver

There are going to be some big bulls killed in 2010 as a lot of big bulls slipped by last year and the moisture and vegetation growth should be phenominal.

Guess i better go back to Beaver Mountain again this year ?

I'm not looking for you to disclose what you paid, but did you get a good bargain?

Congrats on the tag! Should be another great year there!

Yes it was a Bargain ,,,,,,,,,
Thanks

Wasatch rifle went for $7500 and the dutton premium went for $14000.

I think it's safe to say that the demand for overpriced elk tags is down somewhat. And I'll wager elk tags continue to slide throughout the remaining banquets. The other species will be just the opposite- up up and away.....

Although Cache South is not one of the "elite" units, its a great area to hunt IMO.

I believe it went for $6200. That is a great deal and the hunter got a bargain.....
