Just want to know how many POINTS to Draw last year
and what going to happen this year with new quota!
I mean are odds better now the last few year because of new 10%
increase for nonresident?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-19-06 AT 10:00PM (MST)[p]It takes MAX points to get into the bonus point pool. I think that was 7 last year including the hunter ed point.

Random odds are pretty slim, but somebody has to draw one.

Gonna get lots worse than last year as there was NO nonresident quota last year. Wish my lucky number would of been pulled last year, it was one heck of a year down there for deer and elk!

Random odds suck, likely less than 1% for 13B. Better for 13A and the 12s, but not by much.

Getting true draw odds from AZ is almost impossible.

With the lack of moisture down there this winter it may be a good year to just get a point.

I put the numbers on the calculater and it seems to me give or take 0.001% that you have about a 0.0117654% percent chance of drawing the strip. but i keep putting in because i probably wont make enough money to buy the goveners tag this year.

I drew 12b late last year.It was only the 2nd year I had applied in Arizona. Had a great hunt took a 197 net on the last day of my hunt.

In "05", all N.R. had their BEST chance to draw a LATE Strip tag. That will never happen again, now that court case has been settled !!! In "06",N.R. applicants, that don't have "MAX B.P." have 0% chance to draw a 12A-E&12-B LATE,13A,13B,because of the 20% tag quota to ALL max B.P.holders (Res. and N.R.)Put the No More Than 10% to N.R. factor into it,and its plain to see/figure.MAX only should apply for these units,as You only have to choices, don't waste a choice at a 0% chance.Less than "MAX B.P." can still draw the Late 12A-W hunts,at least, because of the tag #'s here.A Hunter will need "Luck" and "Max B.P." to draw a Strip tag in "06" ---

azbiggame, I don't want the N.R. to apply for these hunts either since it only help me, but the fact of the matter is their is a higher chance than 0% for them to draw ANY tag in the state, as long as all the NR tags are not filled in the max bp pool. This can and does happen, when a larger percentage of the residents draw most of the max bp tags, especially when your only talking about say 12 tags going into the max bp pool for 13B? Residents could easily draw all of these tags, and leave all 10% NR tags in the general drawing. Read the post by Don Vathome under elk and my responses, this will explain how this continues to happen and NR can draw these tags without max bp.

Jasn:--- read Your responce in the elk forum, well spoken.Don't let the name mislead You,as I'm a N.R. since "98",live in "Sin City".The 20% max pool,NEW in "06" makes this a New ballgame.Staying with 13B as an example, for Mule Deer, the most "Coveted" public lands deer hunt in the WEST,I'm uder the impression that the NO MORE THAN 10%,for N.R. could all be drawn out in the 1st draw (20% of 60=12 given out to the Max B.P. holders.6 tags total is all that is allowed,to N.R.(Not Guaranteed, either) from the original 60 tags ??? Now if only 10% of the 12 tags can go to N.R.in the 1st draw =1 tag and the other possible 5 tags go back into the draw ??? then Yes it is possible for less than Max B.P. Non Res applicants to draw a 13B tag ---

It will be interesting to see how this NEW 20% factor enters into this Premium Unit(13B)I'll still stand by MY earlier statement.Good Luck to "ALL" max bonus point holders,YOu will need ALL of Them ---

Sure am glad I pulled a strip tag last year. 0 points as a NR and drew a 13A tag. Now, I knew I was lucky, but now I really know how fortunate I was. I will put in forever, even if the chance is so very small, someone has to draw, I did, and with zero points.

Passed on a 190+ typical not even 5 min into the hunt. I just could not pull the trigger that soon, know what type of deer are down there. Passed about a low 180 buck with a sweet hook cheater on day two. Nothing of size after that. With two days left we went after a cactus buck and a 3X4 with extras that would push 200, did not see them, but a really nice typical walked out of the Grand Canyon National Park and walked across about a thousand yards of sagebrush, right to us. I figured with less than two days left, this buck is a gift.

27", and went 183. No eyeguards and only 21" main beams killed him, should have had 10 more inches. BUT, am very happy that I got a good buck. Amazing place, hard to hunt, and VERY few deer, but some huge ones. Glad I had my chance. By the way, I hunted with Brady Dupke and had a blast, way cool guy.
