I have a Remington Sendero 7mm mag with the fluted bull barrel. The gun is pretty heavy, but not too bad if your in shape. What are you all's thoughts on taking this out of state to either NM or CO with me to hunt this year? I'm from TX, never been to either state, so I really am unsure about how heavy that gun will be at the end of the day. I was planning on taking my 270 as well, which is much lighter, just in case. I'd rather shoot the 7mm; I'm much more comfortable shooting it. Any thoughts on this?

I have the same thing, Sendero in 7mm Rem Mag. It is more of a specialty gun, if you know of a place where you are going to snipe across canyon or somthing it is best suited for that. Not for packing up and down hills all day. 9lbs with ammo and sling and with the 26in barrel that gets hung up on brush all the time. if you are going to be like antelope hunting or somthing in open country bring it, if not, bring the 270.

I use mine when the hills are like cornflakes or in oakbrush covered hills where you have only a cross canyon shot and I am sitting on a ridge and not moving around.

Thanks for the reply - that's what I figured. 9lbs compared to the normal 6 or 7 doesn't sound like much, but 2 pounds sure makes a difference. Like you said, the 270 is both shorter and lighter.

I had a Sendero 300 ultramag and loved shooting it, but sold it for something lighter, (tikka T3) although I hunted the Selway Wilderness in Idaho, which is very steep and thick in places. It obviously was heavier than I wanted, but it worked just fine. I would take the gun you are most comfortable shooting.
