elk decoys

Elk season is just around this summers corner.
I know 20 or so weeks away for some of us.
so how many of you hunt with or carry a decoy?
or is anyone going to use decoys this year?
is ebay a good spot to look for decoys?
how many kinds are out there?
I think i'm starting to here them,
I think i heard a buggle last night.
Got to just hate this time of the year , but its now that I start gathering things.
buy a little hear and there and its easer on the check book.
right now i'm looking at decoys, just got my income tax check back.
lets talk about decoys and how if any they have affected your hunts.

I think montana decoys work great. Gives them something to focus on. Set it up about 30 to 40 yards behind you and do not move a muscle till he walks by. Then your almost home free! Used one on a friends le hunt last year. Worked awesome, I was hunched down behind it cow calling. The only 2 times I got busted was by the wind and I lost my balance and fell over. He was about 15 yards and he grunted and took off pooping down both legs. I'm sure if he could talk he would have said some choice words. I don't know if I have laughed any harder.

don't sit next to them,
hold them, or mount them on your bow.
you could get shot.

I also like the Montana decoy. They help your set up by giving the bull something to focus on when they get in close.

I've used a combo of the Montana decoy & cow scent during archery season. Works great! We've had cows & bull both come in on a run. Last years bull locked on to the decoy @ 100 yds & went nuts for about 5 minutes before jumping a fence & galloping in to range.

I've used em. The Montana is easy to set up and fits in my pack. It's worth the trouble. No experience with the others.

I've used the montana decoys and have had mixed reviews on them. They can work fantastic, but when in windy conditions i've had them start to blow around and spook herds away. So if its windy i wouldnt recommend them.

I have talked to a guy that has had great success and he "flashes" the Montana decoy. Pick it up, then drop it down. He never leaves it standing.

I have 3 of Elkmasters 101 decoys ( 4 yrs old) and they have worked great for us during archery season. The herd thing works better then a single decoy IMO.

BUT ITS NOT EXACTLY THE SAME EVERY ONE IS HAND DYED AFTER IT IS SEWN TOGETHER.

Got it.
We use them in a herd type setting around waterholes and they have worked great for us. Dang 7 years old and they are still holding up.
