Neat Way to Make Money for Wildlife

I think that this is a neat way to make money for wildlife (http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/apps/releases/view.cfm?NewsID=3083). The Idaho Fish and Game auctions off various trips and then takes people out to do neat stuff outdoors. I think it is a cool fundraiser that doesn't involve selling coveted tags to the highest bidder(not that I am necessarily always opposed, but it is controversial).

When I worked with the IDFG a few years ago I got to go along and help out on the Snow Peak backpacking trip. It was really cool, we camped in a fire lookout with awesome views, saw mountain goats, elk, deer, and bears, caught more cutthroat than you can imagine, and found a winterkilled 6 point bull. I really liked the trip. The guy who bought it had a cleaning business in Boise and brought his father along.

I know that this type of trip is not going to bring the kind of money that a conservation tag does, but I wonder what it might be able to do in some other states, especially if conservation groups got involved. One of the neat things is that this type of trip is mostly-nonconsumptive (we did eat some of the fish) and an agency could sell lots of them without making much of an impact on the resource and without having lots of guys get mad about having trophy animals harvested.

I think it's a great idea, we need more people coming up with unique opportunites to improve wildlife habitat.

Another one would be for the "donations" that are made to the MDF and others to be made without an exchange for a tag. . . Oh, that would be a donation wouldn't it? Oh, I'm sorry I got donation confused with buy, I'll be more careful next time!

Sounds like a great idea to me. Especially if it gets the non-hunting outdoorsmen to foot some of the wildlife management bill.
