I got a muzz tag for the Wasatch and live North Carolina. Does anyone have knowage of Backcountry Scouting? All information is very welcone.

I have no idea who they are.. I will do some research... I have drawn Wasatch Muzzy also... I live 15 minutes from seeing elk in the Wasatch... I will take some pics and vids this summer... Last year I saw an 8X9 385+ bull, 4 or 5 7X7 bulls pushing 390-400, and 1 6X7 who I know without a doubt will score over 400. That being said, killing them will be a different story... This winter on the winter ranges, I have only seen a dozen over 350!

Wow Untimely you surly have the inside scoop on the Wasatch. My brother is putting in for this unit and I have hunted parts of it but I have never seen what you describe. I hunt above Heber for cows and spikes with an eye out for a good bull area should anyone in my family ever draw the unit. Sure would like to see some of these bulls you are describing. Include me in your picture list if you would.

Thanks, HondoArcher

What part of NC are you from. It sounds like you need to hook up with the guy who saw all these 400 bulls. I spend alot of time on the wasatch and I have never seen that many 380 & 390 bulls at one time in one place on this unit. awholelotta bulls is a great guide. They hunt around the area I do and they are supper nice I bet if you talked to them they would help you out seeing that you are from NC. If not PM me and I can hook up with ya and help ya out a little. I used to live in NC thats why I asked what part.

Congrats on the tag, I am from NC too, I live in Alleghany County. If I had that tag I would definitely try to get with AWHOLELOTTABULL if he is not already booked for this fall.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-10 AT 11:20PM (MST)[p]I will get some pictures this summer. It would be nice to see these bulls all in one spot, but these bulls are from riding and scouting all over the wasatch. I ride my own horses and guide horse trips in the wasatch back and have seen some amazing animals over the past 7 years. When you are up there 4 days a week, the chances of seeing more game increases. We ride mostly morning and evening and it has been amazing. This year on the winter range, the bulls were good but not huge. Even saw a few bigger bucks this year. Last year was horrible for the deer after the winter kill a few years past. We saw several bucks in Dec and jan in the 28" to 32" class and 1 giant cactus buck... unfortunately they were all on private property and will probably stay there year round.
We need to figure out how to get Wolf Creek to allow some hunters. I know a lot of folks up there don't like hunting, but the animals are becoming very numerous... Would love to guide just archery for them, throw the tag money into their HOA... They would make a ton of cash!!!

I too wish I could have seen them all in one spot... unfortunately, it has been over months of riding and scouting all over the unit... pretty spread out and a pretty good size unit...
They are out there... just have to have the time to find them...

Untimely, My Dad started this post and has the tag. I think he should go guided but it is his tag and his money. If we decide to DIY, I would appreciate some info. We have horses and a pack in camp type hunt would be my second recommendation after a guide.

I live in Davidson now, been here 5 years. Move after 50 years in California, have a daughter and two granddaughters here and the wife wanted to spend more time with them before they grew up. As you can see the last post is my son, who stills lives in California. We have hunted most of the western states but Utah and Az. All help is greatly appreciated.

I used to live in charlotte and hickory and a few other places in NC. i love that place. I have been talking to your boy on the utah forums. see what happens with the colorado draws and then decide. I think you should give jim with AWHOLELOTTA bulls a call and see if he can save you a spot. I know your boy was worried about a guide and your age. I think he would be good with your age. I sent a pic to your son of the bull me and a friend killed last year. If I can help you guys out i will as much as I can or as much as the old wife will let me.

Califelkslayer... I will be happy to share some information. I am taking a friend of mine who has drawn an archery tag. I will load up on pictures and video this summer and fall scouting. There are plenty of great elk on this unit... some of the areas are easily accessed via ATV.. others best for use with horses of pack in. Are you planning on coming out at all to scout? If so, I will grab my horses and take you to a few areas.. Early Aug would be the best. As the summer moves along, and if you like the pictures I post, let me know. I would be happy to help! I have many friends who live right here in the Wasatch who will be riding and scouting for me as well.
