Well I figured out that waiting for an early rifle tag wasn't in the cards so with my 6 bonus points I applied--and drew--a resident muzzleloader bull tag in unit 6A for the September rut hunt.

Wasn't my first choice (23N early rifle) but a good unit, lots of bulls, some great ones too, so it will be fun.

Congrats to all this year that beat the odds andwil go elk hunting.

Hopefully, when its over, I'll have some photos to post.

This is my third early bull tag in 25 years. My first tag I got a decent 7 X 6 bull in 23N, then four years ago I drew a muzzleloader bull tag on the Navajo Army Depot that I signed over to a great young hunter from Hunt Of A Lifetime and now this one, which is probably my last. Those cow hunts look mighty good, and I can probably go about every other year!

Congrats! 6A will always be one of my favorite areas in AZ. I took my first bull there. Good luck! I am on 7-points and might just try and do the same next year.

Thanks for finally posting a non utah related post in this forum. I guess those guys need a refresher every now and then that there are other states that have hunting opportunity.

ego participate in Monasteriense muleys proinde ego sum bardus (I participate on monstermuleys therefore I am stupid)

Don,
Congrats on the tag, it should be a great one. Thanks for sharing your 2nd early bull tag with a young hunter from Hunt Of a Lifetime, it speaks volumes of your character. I wonder if I could do the same if ever in your shoes. May the elk gods return your kindness with a great hunt.
+1 stinky on a non Utah elk post.

Happy hunting. -Sig

Don,
Congrat's on a great tag.If I remember correctly there is only 25 tag's for that hunt.Horn growth should be great.Heck we were still getting a little moisture yesterday.

Well they kinda upped the tags this year for this hunt there are 50.

There is also a Unit 6A early rifle hunt that is going on at the same time in the north part of the unit (6A North), but those of us with the muzzleloader tags can hunt anywhere in the unit, including the north part.

There must be a ton of bulls in the north for G&F to issue that many tags, so I will check it out, but most likely will hunt on the south, where there won't be nearly as many hunters.

Yeah, we got a little rain last night in Kingman, if the storms keep coming the feed will be awesome and antler growth at it's max.

Gonna be a good year to have an Arizona elk tag for sure.

The department has really hammered 6a the last 15 years.I still put in for it because I know it like the back of my hand. Not as many 350 bulls as there used to be,but still is some.My 70 year dad took a 365 with his bow two years ago.

Congrats on the tag!I really agree that the unit is just getting hammered. with the addition of the october rifle bull tags, the elk here are hunted non stop from sep-dec. Still though, 6A will always hold a special place in my heart as well as i took my first bull there, a 6x5 with my dad and grandpa. Also killed my first mule deer and my first coues' deer in 6A as well. Still lots of elk and lots of gorgeous country. Should be a great hunt, I would have an archery bull tag in 6A south but I had to draw my first choice in 5B North : ). GOOD LUCK DON~
