Nevada help-bowhunt

We are looking to bowhunt Colorado next year, we will have 3 points by then. Then we would like to try Nevada high country archery, in 2009 or 2010, but we don't have any point for now.

I'm thinking about 101-108 early tag, and chances are good to draw without any point, decent kill rate. But is there any other unit that would be better, but may need 2 or 3 points, we would have time to build points between now and then. We're looking for public land, high country.

It's just that the points are somewhat expensive, especially for single species since you have to buy license. But if it's worth it, we'll buy the points.

Any unit to research ?

Martin, you are crazy to buy a license 150 dollars for one species. Apply for everything, or use your money to apply for Wyoiming general tag and by Idaho tag if needed. My opinon.

There are no guarantees when you'll draw in Nevada, especially for a non resident. I'm not real familar with 101-108, but I do know there is some access issues, and they give a lot of archery tags out. There are a lot of units in the northern and central part of the state that have good hunting with good access and less people. You'd probabbly have a better than average chance at these units over a two year period and a few points. You can always put 101-108 as your last choice and have a very good chance of drawing with 3 points.

Units 111-113 and unit 114,115 are completly public land 111-113 are 10,000 to 11,000 ft and 114- Mt. Moriah is 12,000 ft. By Next year both areas will be largely made up of wilderness and can be drawn with 0-2 points.

martinc. 101-108 is an easy draw because of access. Great thing about archery in Nevada is the odds are great. Previous advice is solid. If you are gonna buy a PP (huntin license) apply for elk & antelope too at the very least. I apply for 3 species of sheep, deer antelope and elk. That $140.00 license plus the app fees makes it about $40.00 per PP. better than $155.00 just for deer. I've hunted late archery in 101-108 during the rut and seen dozens of bucks every day including quality but its hard cause of where they are that time of year plus hunting archery when the highs are in the 20's and nights are below 0 is tough. I've also hunted the early rifle in the high country and seen 75+ bucks in a day but its not really archery country either, too wide open. Not saying it can't be done but I only use 101-108 early archery as a last choice when i don't have any points for deer. Its a great last choice because of the draw odds but when I get 2 points, I only put in for the late seasons (rut). Good luck on whatever you decide.

Just hope that I can be lucky again this year and pull another tag. Been lucky the past couple of years on gettin the tag, just not lucky enough to put the tag on anything, guess thats what happen when you trophy hunt. Saw some dang nice bucks though, had a few close calls, maybe this year will be my year to fling an arrow at a monster that only few know about. Well good luck to all in the draw, I am gettin excited, but it is still a month away. Hey NVGuide don't let timberline_shedfreak24 get too bromantic with ya.

Hey Elkguide there has to be a tag in hand and carbon in the air before you can stick a hole in anything.

This is what happens when you let'er fly

You don't want me to bring up the senerio from the year before last do ya? Guess you learned your lesson about wearing a face mask that you didn't practice with. Yeah that is true that you need a tag in hand and a carbon in the air, but when you set your standards high its tough to get into position on some of them old crafty bucks. You got lucky last year bro, don't let that go to your head, remember archery hunting is 80% luck, 10% persistance, 9% putting yourself in the right place, and 1% skill. Anyways hope to stick an arrow in a deer like that this year, that is if I can draw another tag.
