San Juan potential from the ROAD??

After 17 years my Uncle finally drew early rifle San Juan. He is confined to a wheelchair, and will be hunting from the truck, or possibly a side x side.
I know a little about the unit, but never been down during the rut. Any advice on areas to hunt (I'm thinking south end Elk Ridge), and maybe even expectations on trophy potential if confined to the roads. We are planning to be down as long as it takes. He may even be eligible for an extension. There is no doubt this will be his last effort for big elk, and we want to do everything possible to make the most of it.

Any help would be awesome!!

If ya put yur time in then i am confident that yur dad will pull the trigger on a nice san Juan bull: one that you both can be proud of. Make sur that you take plenty of pictures

+1 Lambo there is some good Bulls down there, if you hit any part of the rut you will do good. Getting to know the area's that are holding the rutting bulls is the key.

He gets an extra 30 days to hunt as well, so I think the potential to connect on a decent bull is pretty good.

Thanks to all.. Keep us in mind as the hunt draws closer.
I do have one other question...

With the extension he is eligible for, I've heard he can have it either prior to the regular hunt dates, or after??

If he could choose one or the other what would be best? I've heard some years the muzzy hunt is incredible, and some years the bulls are not as active.

Before and after both have their advantages for the 30 day extension, but I think I would go with the 30 days after the early rifle. He could then hunt from September 18th through October 26th, in that time frame he should be able to locate a stud bull on that unit.
