My dad had 13 points going in to the Wasatch early rifle draw this year. How did he not draw that tag? Based on all the stats this should have been guaranteed. (Yes we double-checked our point total and used a valid credit card)
They decreased the number of rifle permits on the Wasatch so unless you have max points or just under your odds drastically went down this year. If you put in for a Muzzy tag or Achery tag your odds went up this year. Sorry you didn't draw.
They took a few rifle elk tags away and added a whole lot of archery elk tags. The state is trying to clear a few people out of the point pool by offering more tags for archers. Sorry you didn't get it. A dad with 13 points could have put in with a son with 3 and both could havedrawn archery tags on there this year.
Thanks for chiming in my friends. According to this link http://wildlife.utah.gov/public_meetings/info/2010-03-04.pdf the number of resident early rifle tags on the Wasatch went from 221 in 2009 to 215 in 2010. That's probably not enough to make a statistical difference. 13 points has been enough to draw the wasatch every year since 2006. Last year the bonus pool points even went into the category with 12.
I'm wondering if more people decided to put in for early rifle hunts this year in general because it looks like these prime time rut rifle tags are going to be a thing of the past in years to come.
Its going to be interesting to see what the draw report looks like when its released.
I also put in for a tag that was basicly gauranteed and didnt get it. The point system is bull. It dont work. And the stats on the two websites i look at each year are wrong. All bull in my book.
My dad had the same thing happen to him. Crazy. My sister on the other hand along with my best friend's wife both drew the Wasatch Mtn Any Weapon tag with 2 points. Pretty incredible. I feel bad for my bad, but we will have a great fall hunting for two bulls and hopefully a couple more in the near future.
I know a guy with 14 res. points that got the big unsuccessful on the Wasatch. I think there must have been alot of people change units this year as I should be holding a tag as well but am not
Well you can blame us for one bonus tag,,,We jumped ship..
Used my wifes 15 points to pull one, I've got to "git-r-done'.
Want to use MY Wyoming elk points next year!
I had 14 points this year and was shut out too, but that seems to br my luck, I know a guy who drew the wasatch premium tag this year with only 4 points. I am going to look for better hunting in another state now
Based on last years data the max pool for FishLake archery should have been 7 this year and both of them drawing in the max pool. I have heard of at least one applicant with 10 points applying.
So, past performance is not a guarantee of future results....
Remember that only 50% of the tags go to the Max point pool, the rest are all randon so anyone from 0 to Max can draw the other 50% of the tags.
Thats why you dont take the Odd charts too seriously.the max guys got 50% of the tags, and the rest went to people with fewer points...How many max point people are there? Im sure it is posted somewhere on the DWR site and only half of those will draw a tag unless they are just banking points for the future..
