Manti Archery

Sorry to bug you again fella's. I drew a LE archery tag on the Manti unit and it seems to be all I can think about these days. I can't wait to go tool around the unit and get more familiar. Is there some good areas to backpack into or do the roads and atv trails pretty well cover the entire unit? My plan is to hunt that last weekend after the spike hunt ends and before the LE rifle hunt starts. Will the bulls be talking pretty well by then? Anybody have any good advice on areas to scout around this summer? PM if you would like.

The bulls will be talking by then. this is the best year out of 5 for archery. you get to hunt5 days later than last year. those 5 days make a difference. Getting to know some of the local guys may be better than scouting as they know where the bulls are if you can get them to talk. I grew up in the area and have hunted there and fishlake all my life. After many days scouting and hunting a couple of local boys showed me where this bull was last day.

PS the places I know of that they closed the roads and trails are south end Jump Creek area

after having a le archery tag last year,(on a different unit) i would advise you to hunt hard the first few days becasue after that the elk are pretty skittish and hard to find. i had hoped the last week would improve but the elk just didnt have the time needed to settle back in. thats my 2 cents

on your advantages the hunt is one week later so the bulls should be talking a bit more ,maybe...and you get 7 days without spikers and i only had 5.

still if i i had a tag this year i still would hunt hard the first few days!

good luck! post pics!

LAST EDITED ON May-11-10 AT 10:41PM (MST)[p]I think you'll enjoy some pretty good days late in your hunt as you catch the pre-rut. That's when bulls can be coaxed in close by calls, they are all jockeying for position when the first cows come into heat and cow calls spark interest causing many older bulls come in to investigate in attempt to estabolish herd rank.

From Sept.5-the last archery day (what is it the 17th this year?) you can call in bulls sometimes easier than the later half of Sept. Some of the very largest bulls I have ever called in were the first week of Sept. prior to them setting dominance in a herd.

The first week in Aug. can be good sitting over water, problem with the Manti is there is water everywhere. Bulls are quiet but if you know what you are doing it can be effective hunting bulls the first few days if the temp. is hot.

You seem like a cool hunter if you are already talking about backpacking into some areas. So shoot me an email and I will share some cool areas that might be what you are looking for. [email protected]
