Box Elder Pilot Mountain

I know that this is a limited entry rifle elk hunt, but is it open to archery hunters as a general unit; or is it only open to those limited entry rifle hunters? This year there were 3 tags that 123 people applied for as a first choice.

Looking at the map in the big game guidebook the area is white on page 77 and not designated as any type of hunt other than limited entry rifle elk.

I doubt I get out there but I am looking for somewhere new to bow hunt elk with my bow.

The map on page 75 Shows this area as a "Limited-Entry elk unit". If you look at the dates for the LE rifle hunt out there it actually starts earlier than other LE rifle hunts during the last week of the general archery hunt. My interpretation of the map on pg 77 is that there is no general bull hunt in the white area of the map. I may be wrong.

How do you know the numbers as far as tags and applicants? is there a report out already?

I am pretty sure it is not open for spike only hunting. There are very few elk out there and it would reduce that herd to nothing if they were over hunted. I agree with FlyFool, that the white means it is not open...

Thanks. I must be pretty unlucky. I had a 50% chance of drawing my tag and didn't. oh well.
