Hey guy's I'm looking into getting a couple of trail cam's for this years elk hunt. If anyone would like to post some trail cam pics and what model of cam was used, I think it would help narrow my search for some good cam's. I've tried to go off of reviews on cabelas but most guys just B&M about batteries or it only took 40 pics in a month. I think it would be more benificial to see some results and then an opinion on it. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian

I like my Cuddeback. Nice clear pictures, quick trigger speed-as proven on the flying hawk picture, decent battery life. I also own a Moultrie and a few Wildview but they lack in every catagory compared to he Cudde. Just purchased some Stealth Cam Sniper Pro's can't wait to get them out and see how they perform.

I have 2 Moultrie cameras and they take over 1000 pic.s on one set of batteries.

You can find it on sell for under $100.00

Moultrie D 40 seem like the best value out there. Less than $100, easy to use, take great pictures.

I have 5 of them and one I 40. The D 40 are my favorite even though the I 40 was almost 2x the price.

LAST EDITED ON May-18-10 AT 07:42AM (MST)[p]+1 on the D 40's!! I bought a bunch more brand new D 40's for hella cheap on KSL last month.

NMPaul what are you doing for batteries with yours?? The guy I bought them from works for a fire alarm company and got me a deal on some 12 volt rechargable alarm system batteries...he said he gets almost 3 months out of them before needing recharged. Last year I was using the rechargable D cells and could only get a week or 2 out of them in my D 40...with brand new Duracells I still could only get 2-3 weeks life...so hopefully this new setup will work out better than the last lol.

GO KOBE GO!!

never-catch, I have real mixed results with re chargeable batteries.

Sometimes I get 1000 pics out of them sometimes 40. Cant explain it. Not sure if it is cold or hot weather.

When I know I am leaving a camera in a spot a long time I go with regular batteries, when I am just goofing around I use the rechargeable.

Reconyx is the best hands down, but a $500-$600 a pop you will be a little upset if some thieving bastard decides to lift one.1/5 second trigger speed and a detecion coverage area that is 5x bigger than any other camera its the top dog of trail cams.

I have 6 Cuddeback Capture's (non-IR) and am very happy. One of my photos actually appears on the package these cameras come in. I'd reccomend these to anyone. You might find them for $160 if you shop around.

I have not tried them yet, but the Bushnell Trophy Cams have my interested. They use AA batteries and one set is supposed to last most of a season. They are also half the size of most other cameras.

I really like the DLC Covert cameras. The Covert II is very similar to the Bushnell Trophy camera as Covert makes the Bushnell. The thing that I like is the shutter speed and that the batteries last a long time and they are very small. Having a small camera makes the difference to me as I can hide them better and keep people from finding them. I always use a lock box, lag bolting them to the tree or stump and keeping them hidden is one of the most important things to me. I hide them in knot holes, under rocks, up high in branches or where ever I can to get the best picture or view of the trail or wallow. The website trailcampro.com site does not include the Covert II in their test which has more IR lights and wider angle lens and senser than the DLC Covert Scoutguard SG550 they test. I can set it up to take 3 picture bursts or video and they work awesome.

Do some research on chasingame.com for what you want. Ther eis one big thing to ask yourself before buying a camera. and that would be do I want a Trail camera, or a game camera. What I mean is if you are going to put this one a trail, you better get one with less thana second of trigger time or you will just be mad at it. A Game camera, like the $100 Moultrie, are a great buy but you need to put them on a water hole, mineral lick, scrape, or food source where the animals are not moving fast.

I am a fan of the Bushnell trophy cam, fast trigger speed, great battery life, very small package and reasonable cost at 200.00. I would also spend the money and buy the lock box for it to. Also very good pictures. You can find good deals on the cam and box combos if you look.
My impression of the Moultrie D-40 is MUCH LOWER than the previous comments about it. I went through more 6 volt batteries than I got in pictures. Very finicky about brand of SD card you use [although the Bushnell has the same problem] The best thing that happened to my Moultrie was someone stole it. It did take nice pics on the rare occasion it would actually take pics.
I bought a couple cheap wal-mart Wildviews @ 50.00 each that take decent pictures when they decide to take pics. Still way better than the Moultrie was. If they get stolen who cares.
I will own more of the Bushnell Trophy cams before fall.
