Pahvant Dilemma

Does anybody prefer the Northern part of the unit over the Southern? I have done some good research on both and talked to people who have hunted both. Both ends seem to be good. The Northern is the more "Classic" elk country. And the Southern end holds more bulls (I have heard), but also more people. The Southern end has less public land and CWMUs to worry about. But on the other hand, more areas are accessible on the South as far as trails and whatnot.
I plan on taking several scouting trips to both parts of the unit and checking them out. Just wondering if anybody has a preference on which area would be better for the "Early Rifle" Hunt.

Thanks,
HJB

Personally, I have hunted a fair amount on Pahvant and have found that the nothern end has more hunters in areas like Broad Canyon, Teeples, etc. That being said, there are a good amount of elk in those areas as well.

Last year, we started hunting on the northen end and finished the season more on the Southern end. I felt like the bulls were more receptive on the southern end and not as call shy. But, to me, there were not quite as many bulls. The hiking was definitely alot easier on the southern end as well.

Either way, its Pahvant and holds a good amount of bulls in most areas...

I had that same issue on the Dutton last year.
I jsut kept scouting both ends and even east to west.
I ended up hunting the area i was most comfortable with and felt the most confidence in.........it paid off.
We had times we wanted to jump ship and run to another area for a day here and there, but fought off the urge and kept hunting the bulls we knew were there.
Get a game plan going and stick with it.
