Well, after 17 years of applying I finaly drew an elk tag for Unit 10 in northwest Colorado. In anticipation of the hunt I've been in the unit several times over the last couple of years to check things out. No doubt the elk are there. Any information others would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. I'm not aksing for your secret spot just some good information to help get me going.

Thanks,

Public land or private? What kind of bull are you looking for? Have you hunted elk in the rut before?

This will be a public land hunt. I have plenty of experience with elk. I have hunted during the rut. Maybe to be more specific with my question, has anyone hunted the unit in recent years and would be willing to share their observations (ie, points of access around some of the private, general patterns of elk movement in the area, good glassing locations, etc.) Again, I'm not after someone's secret spot. Instead, just some good information to get things going.

Thanks,

Gruther,

I hunted 10 last year and have extensive experience in the unit going back a decade. But, you didn't answer all my questions......including the most important one.

Not sounding like an avalanche of info is about to come cascading down...if the criteria to open the door to a guy with a perfectly earnest approachand question includes what size a bull a he wants?

Gruther give me a PM with your e-mail, I'm not the expert some folks are, but I'll hook you up with some intel, no problem. Helped on a couple bow hunts there hunts plus scouting, and deer hunted myself so know a few things that might help. I'll never draw the unit so no big deal.

Here's my bull from last year.

I am sure after waiting 17 years he wants a rag bull. Apology? hahaha funny.

Gruther, Khunter should be getting you my contact info. It has been a while since I hunted it but I live by you and will tell you all I know.

Thanks again to all those that have offered thier help. You've been a big help in pointing me in the right direction and helping get me started.

Enjoy the weekend.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-06-10 AT 06:16PM (MST)[p]Not sure why someone would not reveal there hotspot. By the time the person draws another tag he may be to old to hunt. Good luck. I have 19 PP and am hoping to hunt somewhere next year. By the way nice bull TD.
