CO UNIT 61 IST RIFLE

LOOKING FOR ANY INFO ON GM 61. IS NORTH AREA BETTER THAN SOUTH END? ARE THE ELK MOSTLY IN THE OAK BRUSH? WILL SHARE OVER 5 YEARS OF HUNTING IN UNIT 21 CO.THANKS

My experience is archery elk and 3rd season deer so it may not help. After I took my bull, the game warden told me, "80% of the hunters are in the aspens, 80% of the elk are in the oakbrush."

First rifle will have more pressure. I'd start on the 10th and hope to find a good bull before the 16th.

I spent a week in the unit last fall during muzzle season to prepare for a later hunt. Didn't draw with 16 pts for the muzzle, so hopefully i'll draw in NM. I'd be more than happy to visit-- you'll be able to help w/ my hunt in like 2016. Love pt. creep PM me

Get a high point and be glassing those oakbrush filled hills they move in to them pretty quick.

IMHO go middle to south. We spent the weekend camping in north 61, it was a decompress and rest weekend and I didn't set foot off of any trails. Saw one cow and three bucks. The better bulls will most likely be in the deep canyons wherever you go.
