Militia?

So, back when our great nation was founded, the militia was composed of every able bodied male of the age af majority. They were to be armed and ready to come to the aid of fellow citizens and country alike.

We now know that females should have been included, but let's not hold that against our forefathers.

Of late, "Militia" has become a bad word, because of it's attachemnt to some extreme groups. Axe that connotation in your mind before reading my question...which is coming up here any minute...and assume we are talking about a regular red-blooded American that has a rifle (not even a semi-auto, mind you) and knows how to use it, should the need arise.

Question: Are WE the miltia the forefathers would have counted on, and if so, what are our duties, if any, in this day and age?

Curious about other's views on this.

Hoos, To answer your question???. YES, I beleive we are..Our responsibility???. Protect and serve America as needed or when called upon...If we were to be attacked with armies of infuntry soldiers from other countries you can bet your sweet arss we would be loading our guns and fighting to the death to defend mother and country..That is precisly why no country would dare attack our shores...They will try to sucker punch us as they did on 9/11 but to stand up face to face with America???. NOBODY!!! is big enough or tough enough or DUMB ENOUGH to take us on...Our everyday duty is to show our children why Amerca is great and why they enjoy the freedom they have...Don't ever let them forget our men and women from wars past...Tell them with pride what a great country we have...Teach them to respect our leaders regardless of political party...and teach them it's OK to disagree but respect others opinions...Show tolerance but don't excuse wrongdoers..Americans needs to become loyal to America once again and eat ,sleep, and breath RED, WHITE, and BLUE!!!!...

The "militia" by definition of the Supreme Court is composed of all able bodied men between the ages of 17 and 45, without physical impairment or mental incapacity". To my mind, that includes everyone who can carry a gun.

Thier function, as required, to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foriegn and domestic.... That about sums it up..

Kingfish and DANR are right on. Even us guys 45ish and over will load our rifles and fight to the death to protect our country, our wives and children.
