Go deep into the wilderness off the flanks of Nogal, get off the trails. Have a great hunt and post photos. 36 was my baptism into elk hunting and my 1st trip out west.

hornsnfish, congrats on the draw and leave a big 6x for me as I will follow you in later for the second rifle season. You should see a lot of bugling bulls on that hunt. I would get over close to the reservation and see if the rich guys have driven any of those early hunt bulls into 36.

I've been looking for all the information I can find as well. I was actually just in Ruidoso on business this week and did a tiny bit of scouting. Hopefully I'll be able to get back in late August to do some scouting on horseback.

I took a bull out of there a few years back. Step country and not huge. About 47k acres and they will be bugling that time. Most of the unit holds some elk. 230-320 score area. The average bull out of there is about 265. Hunt hard and you should get one.
