Federal Nosler Partitions or Barnes TSX

I've always shot Federal 180 gr. NP's out of my .30-06 but was wondering what others thought about how the Federal NP's compare to the same load in the Federal Barnes TSX. This would be for elk. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've shot a fair amount of elk with the 130 and 140gr Barnes X, XLC and TSX, out of my 270. I have only recovered one Barnes, all others have blown through. This bullet works great. I would, and do, use the 168gr TSX in my 30-06. Very accurate.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-16-10 AT 06:31PM (MST)[p]I use the 165's for deer and elk,and they work great, tho most folks suggest the 180's. The 180's have more punch farther out.But the 165's blew right thru a cow @ 175 yrds, she dropped right after.I use them in my Rem 700 30-06.

Use to shot the Partiton and loved them at the time but now that Barnes TSX is availabale go with it. In the 4-5 I have recovered from moose, deer, elk and bear you get near 100% weight retention.

I don't think you can go wrong with either bullet. Both are excellent choices. See if one shoots noticably better than the other in your rifle, and go with that one.

The Nosler partition has a track record of performance that is dang near flawless. In my opinion, it is the best bullet out there for specifically elk and other large boned, thick hided critters. Use it with confidence.

I've heard it said that NP's are so consistent that they are boring. What a compliment.

Both are very good choices. Shoot the most accurate in your rifle.

Nosler partitions are the standard other bullets have been judged against for 50 years. Damn fine bullets.

That being said, the Barnes TSX will be the bullet all others are judged against for the NEXT 50 years. It is a definite improvement, and the best bullet on the market today.

You won't go wrong with either choice. If one shoots better in your rifle than the other, let that be your guide. If they both shoot the same, then go with the TSX.

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like I need to try the Branes out in my gun because the Noslers shoot in 1" groups. If I can get similar grouping, I'll go with the Barnes. Thanks again.
