hey guys i just drew an excellent archery elk tag in northern new mexico im nineteen and this will be my first elk hunt. i have shot deer and hogs with the slick tricks but will they work on elk? im leaning towards the grizztrick though if yall have any info on shootin elk with the slick tricks good or bad i'd love to hear it. any help would be very appreciated...thanks

No slick trick but I would say. I gave up on mechanical heads after a horrible year last year with Rage. The tips were not sharp enough to prevent graze. The hide and hair on an elk deflected several shots.

My experience is limited to the Standard Slick Tricks. I have not tried anything else. I haven't found any reason to. They have yet to fail me.

I've got a couple of elk and a moose that didn't like what my slick tricks did to them. Used mags as they flew well, but standards would do just as well if arrow flight is a problem.

Better check if they are even legal. They aren't in most states for big game.

What? There is not a state in the country where Slick Trick wouldn't be legal.

I personally would not use the Griz tricks due to the huge diameter and steep blade angle, but I wouldn't hesitate to use either the Standard trick or the Razor trick. In fact, that is what I'll be using on my UT LE elk hunt this year.

What unit did you draw? Havent ever used the slick trick but I know rage work great on a bear I took last year in northern new mexico. Double lung he didnt make it ten yards!

I punched this bull through the sweet spot with a 100 grain Slick Trick.
Watched him die after doing a short death dance.
They work well.

I had a bad experience with them a few years ago. They glanced off the same elk twice. One shot was a very slight quartering shot the second was a bit more. The broadheads hit the rib bone and stopped the arrow. This is from a 70 lb bow. This should not have happened. I never used them since.

I shoot them and love them!
They are very tough - I have shot the same head into 4 different animals, 2 deer and 2 elk.
The only thing I replaced is the blades after going through each animal. I could have gotten away with sharpening the blades, but I'm too lazy. That exact head still flies very well, but has a very slight wobble when I spin it, so I chose to retire it.
You will have no problems as long as your shot placement is good.

I shot a deer with the standards and a nice bull last year with the 100gr Razortrick. I was very impressed with both, but this year I will be shooting the Razortrick without question!

They fly just as well as the others, but are cut on contact and sharp, sharp, sharp.

The vast majority of the guys I know have switched to slick tricks. I dont have any experience of my own but that is what all my buds are shooting.

They will work great for you. I took a hogg a few years back and hit a little forward (right thru the front shoulder) The arrow went clean thru the first shoulder and stuck in the off shoulder. Cant beat these heads in my opinion
