OK, say you have a tendency to sleep in sometimes. You're up in the high mountains after a big muley and you have to get up on time (way before the sun) to get after him. I realize the first or second morning you won't have any trouble getting up because you'll be so excited....but what do you all do for "waking yourself up" in the mornings on that kind of a backpack hunt? You for sure don't want a flippin alarm clock going off in a ravine right next to the big ole' boy you intend to stalk come first light.......What do you do???

$4.98 Kmart watch, The little beep beep is probably quieter than your snoring and I doubt it will stampede the herd. Wrap it in your pillow, or whatever you use for one.
Sweet dreams.

I always pack a cell phone for safety...it has a built in alarm that I can set to vibrate....totally silent.

I would like to use my cell phone, but the battery usually only lasts a half of a day in the high country, so I use a little lightweight alarm clock bought at Wally World. Muledeernut

Use the Indian alarm clock drink about 2 Qts of water just before bed about 4 A:M you will get up to take a leak. Works great plus it keeps you hydrdated.

Leave your cell phone off. Only use in EXTREME emergency to save battery. In good elk country the bulls will wake you up predawn.

I get up at 3:15 am all year for work, so I don't need an alarm clock during hunting season, and I still get to sleep in 'till 5:00!:)

That there cell phone on vibrate only works if you duct tape it to your head.................Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

good luck this year guys

If I am hunting with my Dad then I am sure to be awakend by him several times during the middle of the night. But if not, I use my watch - very quiet but wakes me right up, My cell phone set to vibrate (kept in my pocket of course) I don't ever hit the snooze on it either! Just let it keep vibrating and vibrating until I am fully up and aroused - uh I mean awake! Great way to wake up!

Watch alarm has always worked for me. I have a Casio pathfinder that has a temp, digital compass, and altimiter in addition to an alarm.

Indian alarm clock. Always works. You might get up earlier than you want, but better early than late. I can't remember where I heard that trick, but I have used it ever since. There is something wrong with the idea of an alarm clock in the woods.

I know just practice wetting the bed!

Why do you need to get up WAY before light if the buck you're going to kill is hanging out within hearing distance of your alarm clock? Seems like first light would work just fine in that case?

I use a watch also, or sometimes my phone. Only problem with the watch is after a week of hard backpack hunting it's not always loud enough to wake up my dead body.

I just get my wife to wake me up. She's usually so scared of bears and bigfoot that she doesn't sleep a wink...

LAST EDITED ON May-25-06 AT 02:19PM (MST)[p]Got a hunting partner like mine that snores all of the time, who needs an alarm clock when you are awake all night.
