So, I had a budget of about $700 for some "Glass". Well I blew $500 on a riflescope and a Rangefinder. I now have $200 bones left (Actually about $160) and need a spotting scope. I realize I'm in the "Cheaper" glass department....but I gotta have one. I want a medium sized one (15-45x60)for scouting and occasionally packing on the mountain and just wanted to know what everyone thought. I had my eye on the Burris Landmark 15-45x60. Any comments on this scope and direction in general would be appreciated.

I know this is not what you want to hear but it's good advice...

Save the $200. Save some more money and look at the spotters that are in the $400 + range. My buddy bought the landmark and it's a piece of crap, he wishes he wouldn't of bought it.

I think I would save the money I had and wait a another year before I buy something I would regret later on. Under $200.00 doesn't buy much.

I've been in that same situation myself. I bought a cheaper scope and took it back after a week. The difference between 200 and 400 dollar scopes is unbelievable so save up and get one that you really want.

The best glass I have ever found under $200.00 is the glass of cold Windmier Heiferwiesen I get at the corner pub. Comes with a twist of lemon for $3.75. Now thats a good glass!

life IS good

Hey bowhunter 223. I bought my brother the Leopold Wind River 15-45X60 on e-bay for about $200 including shipping.I have the same scope and I like mine. These other guys are probably right about the more expensive scopes.I havent really looked through them or I would probably agree, but I do like my Leopold Wind River.Mine costed about $270, but like I said,I got my brothers on e-bay.

Same here. I bought a Wind River on e-bay for right at $200. You will really like it. Definately no Swarovski but for your price range it will fit the bill and do the job. The only mistake I made was looking through a Swarovski and my Leopold on the same scouting trip. But then I thought $200 VS.$2400, not so bad after all.

LAST EDITED ON May-19-06 AT 04:05PM (MST)[p]Save your money and keep your eye on the used market because there's deals to be had if you're patient and have cash on hand so you can jump at a moments notice. Just last week I picked up a like new Leupold Gold Ring 12-40x60mm spotting scope for $350.00. They retail for about $800.00 for the standard and $1200.00 for the HD version.

I've got Swarovski SLC 10x42 binocs for work, as well as the ST80HD spotter. Best value for $$ I've bought in your range is a pair of old Zeiss 10x50 Decarems on eBay for $200. This glass is awesome ...

I bought a Wind River 15-45x60MM for $ XX.00 and the cost of shipping from a regular in here and I am pleased as hell with it. It does the job I need it to with more clarity than the previous spotter I had. take a look at natchez shooting supplies, they have some optics at good prices.

I have the burris. Best buy for the money! I would not be as succsfull with out it. Today's computer hunters all hype each other up about buying $1200+ optics that gets looked at more on the desk at home than out in the field. Bottom line the glass will do the job just not the extra few minutes that you get with $$$$$. That is alright, the last 5 27"+ bucks that have hit the ground in the last six years haven't complained that I only us a Burris.

Buy the good glass if you can...but, I have been real happy with a pair of 10x42 Nikon ATB's I have had for nearly ten years now. They run around $300
