Very fortunate to draw NR 3rd season archery in 16D. Have never been and going DIY. Would welcome any input on how/where to hunt. Thanks much in advance.

To do the tag justice for all non residents that did not draw that unit and the tag you drew hire an outfitter, congrats on the drawing of that tag it may just be the best tag in the west beside some units in az an ut but remember do it justice since this sounds like the first time you have hunted it, there are some good outfitters that guide down there, I have the same tag maybe we will run into you down there.

Hunted it last year. Bulls are really run around from the 2 early hunts. Hunt is overrated. Not nearly as good as Az units way to much pressure from the earlier hunts. I spent quite a bit of time there. Pm me if you want info.

I would love hire a guide, and have done successfully on numerous western hunts. Problem is I have a AZ unit 8 hunt with a guide hired already, simply can't afford to hire another full fledge guide this fall. Would look for a solution in-between that does not cost as much if you have any ideas. Thanks for the feedback, good luck on your hunt!

LAST EDITED ON Jun-23-10 AT 03:54PM (MST)[p]Haven't hunt there in a number of years but I never saw another hunter in the area I was in. I hope it hasn't changed that drastically in the past few years because I finally drew it again!

This hunt is probably not what it once was but it is still a very sought after tag. Concentrate near remote water. There are no areas that are unproductive in that unit but there are areas that are consistently productive. A 320 bull is very possible but anything larger requires plenty of scouting and/or luck. I've seen/hunted some monsters but I have also not harvested in this unit. Enjoy your time down there it is awesome with all the bugling going on at night/morning.
