Scouting for a Muzzy Elk Hunt

So for all those who have drawn a UT LE Muzzy Elk tag, I'm just wondering what your method of scouting is/was? I have a muzzy elk tag and have been out scouting. However, my main concern is finding elk in one area now just to have the elk be long gone later on after having been pressured and hunted by the archery and rifle guys....Not to mention the rut and any associated migration. So I'm curious, what do any of you do to effectively scout for a muzzle loader hunt?

Learn the country, roads, glassin points etc. and maybe the size class of bulls that are on your unit.So more or less just look for places that might hold elk when they have been kicked away from trails, and keep them spots in your mind to check out closer to your hunt. Then come september scout like hek to try and locate some bulls,I had a muzz tag last year and it was tough.I wouldnt count on callin any bulls in unless you get pretty lucky.IF they do answer go after them.On my hunt they would only bugle 2-5 times in morning.and if you dont catch up with them, there pretty hard to find when you cant see them or hear them.Hope this helps..Good luck

My dad had a muzzy tag last year. The elk moved on us from the summer scouting. I heard this before and wish we could have followed it, DO YOUR FINAL SCOUTING DURING THE RIFLE HUNT. Sorry for the caps, but it is important to have a good bull ready for opening morning.
