A fun day of scouting

I don't post on here much, but I figured this might be worth sharing since I enjoy the pics and stories shared by everyone else. This past weekend my dad and I took a scouting trip for the LE elk tag he drew for Utah this year. The first morning we glassed a bull that caught our attention from over a mile away. We were able to get a bit closer before taking these pics as he walked into the trees.

We decided later in the day to take a closer look at the terrain they were in. After waiting three hours and numerous mosquito bites (apparently OFF doesn't work too great) they finally came out of the trees for their evening meal for a closer 350 yard photo session.

This bull on the left is by far the nicest one we saw all weekend. As soon as we saw him my dad whispered that is the one I want!

As it got dark, I took this last picture and we quietly walked back to the truck undetected.

Now as for a few questions to you MM's out there. We've been debating if the bull in the first few pictures is the same one as the big bull in the last few pics? Looking at them we kind of have our doubts that they are but we could easily be wrong. The other questions out of curiousity are, what do you think the bull from the second set of pics would score and about how many more weeks of growth would he have? I hope you guys enjoy the pics as much as I enjoyed taking them. It was my first time digiscoping out in the field so the pics aren't the best.

Very hard to tell. Personally, I don't think they are the same. The second bull seems to have very symmetrical, straight brow tines. On the first bull, in the picture where he is walking into the trees, it seems his right G1 angles pretty hard to the left. Also, the second bull seems to have a slight bend in his main beam at the end on his right side. The first bull doesn't seem to have that but the picture is pretty blurry for that kind of comparison. I also think the bull in the first pictures has better G3s.
Really, I don't think it matters. I hope your dad has a great hunt and that you can both share in the memories for many years to come.
I bet you are having a ball!

Just shoot!!! Really cool pics. I hope you guys can get on them come hunting time.

Not the same bull.

Both would be shooters to me. I think that 2nd one will end up pushing 360.

maybe 2 more weeks of growing on some bulls.

Thanks for the comments. We thought that one bull might be around 370-380 but to be honest neither of us have a lot of experience in determining scores. We also felt that the bull from the first few pics was probably a monster 5 point, we just never really got a great look at him. I have a video of the last bull, which btw I meant my other left in the post, that I'll try post when I get some more time. Can't wait to get up there again in the next little while.

That first bull definately looks to be a monster 5 point to me too. In my opinion that bull would be right at the top or near it depending on what else I found.

Granted he won't score as high as some of the other bulls you will find, but the uniqueness of it will be hard to beat.

best of luck.

The top bull is a big 6x5. Maybe a 7x5 if that cheater on his right side grows out a little bit more. I think why its hard to see is because his g3 splits off of his main beam on his right side so close to his g2 and it covers the g2 but in the picture of him walking away you can clearly see all 6 points on the right side and the missing g3 on the left.

Great bulls! Don't pass up that top bull, he is a keeper

Definatly not the same bulls. The first seems to be a big 5x6, a unique bull for sure. Its hard to tell be he may have a similar point near his g2 on the left side as well to make him a 6x6. Lots of mass, big top end, but short beams.

The second bull is a good bull. I can't get 370 out of that bull, but i could be wrong.

Not the same IMO. The second one is pregnant. Lots and lots of steaks there. The first one looks like he's got some more growth and the second looks near done....

Do you say the one is near done becaus of the lighter color of the velvet(blood flow stoppping)?

He may go 370, that is a nice bull for sure. Hard to field judge a bull, but he is shooter. Measure him later after you have him on the ground.

Everytime I go to the hunt expo, I look at all the mossback 400+ bulls and think to myself, I sure thought they would be bigger...
