NV Unit 33 late Deer

It looks like I am finally going to be hunting Unit 33 in NV on the late hunt. I can't make up my mind whether or not to hire a guide since I don't live near the unit and will get little scouting, if any, in before the season. But everyone keeps telling me that it should be fish in the barrel hunt and hiring a guide is a waste. Anyone hunted this unit before? Any recommendations?

I been trying for that area, just not lucky to draw. I have six points now, how many points did you have? Thanks Mike

I hunted 33 early season in 2004. There are alot of deer in that zone, but you will need to work at it to get a nice one.

I would go with a guide there are several on this site that could be the different in a great hunt or a long trip with alot of camping. I don't know this guy just what I have seen here on MM But WES seems like a straight shooter you should give him a call.IF I drew this tag I would looking for a guide ASAP. You drew a Heck of a great tag don't P!ss it away, Good luck

I hunted it a few years ago on the PIW tag. Took five trips down there, two scouting trips, once during the muzzleloader season, the early rifle and the late rifle. Saw lots of bucks and a three real nice ones, but just couldn't get it to come together.

Saw 56 bucks the last five days of the late hunt. Was holding out for a hog and ended up killing a 160is buck the last half of the last day. Saw three big bucks, but couldn't get them to hold still long enough to size them up or put the stalk on them. Oh well, you roll the dice and sometimes come up a little shy.

You'll see plenty of bucks, as for a monster, even the guides need a little luck! I was camped next to two guides with their clients and one killed a pretty buck (not a monster though) and the other went home empty-handed, so a guide don't necessarily guarantee anything, although if you don't have time to learn the country they at least bring that knowledge with them.

Good luck, I'd sure like the tag again!

Mike, I had 3 nonresident points, then I moved to Nevada and changed them to resident after I established my residency. Trust me, I've spent a few thousand in the draws over the years before drawing a quality tage. Thanks for the input guys. I'm thinking seriously about hiring a guy by the name of Mike Hornbarger of Blackrock Outfitters. He has come highly recommended by a few very capable hunters. Anyone heard anything about him?

Mike is a good choice a friend of mine has used him a couple of times. I don't think you could go wrong with him. I f I was the lucky one with the tag I would be on the phone with him.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not a guided hunter kind of guy but I think with work and the distance between me and the hunt area it is the only way I can do this great tag justice. So, I dropped a check in the mail to Mike. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.
