I am requesting the CDOW sponsor a hunter access proposal which is posted at the web link below. I am using the CDOW's sportsmen's advisory group process to seek support and sponsorship.

I am hoping by posting this here, it will create some awareness and support in the sportsmen community for this concept. As well, your feedback would be very valuable for me as I plan to provide the poll results at the statewide SAG meeting.

Please look at the data on the web link, and take the poll. If possible let me know your thoughts. I am rookie when it comes to web site design, let me know if you can see the slides or have any trouble.

I hope you can the make the SAG meeting held in your region to further this proposal with the alternatives you support. If it is not on the agenda, please bring it up.

While you consider the concept, please keep in mind how many people may live in Colorado 25, 50 or 100 years from now. If projections are met, think of the pressure, and usage demands placed on public lands by not only hunters, but all user communities. Where will the huntable wildlife be with all the pressure on public lands? I believe the time to get this started is now.

I will be seeking the support of the Colorado Wildlife federation, CBA, RMBS, WSSC and the CMDA. If there are other conservation/advocacy groups that may support this, please let me know so I may contact them.

Thanks!

Steve- This is an excellent grass-roots effort that is long overdue. My 2-yr. old is asking me so many questions about hunting that if I can't get him the opportunity someday for whatever reason, I will have failed.

If we can't make the meeting, is there any way to supply input?

Doug

Hi Doug,

Thanks for your comments. I have been writing letters on this topic to the commission for about 5 years now, so I also feel it is overdue.

If you can't make any of the meetings, you can email me your thoughts and I will be sure to print and take with me as public testimony.

As well, please take the online poll.

It would help me if you could send the web link out to your MDF peers so they are aware and can participate and comment as appropriate.

Thanks!

You are right this is way overdue.

I have one complaint regarding the walk in program. There is a lot of land in the program that is completely worthless for hunting. Supposedly farmers can't plow the field after it has been entered into the program but i have seen some fields cut down to nothing. I don't know if using a pay program based soley on hunter usage is the answer but it would be better than what is happening now.

This is a great plan and it seems to be working very well for both sides in montana.

Only 2 comments on a proposal that would get hunting access for everyone on this site that hunts in Colorado? Thats pathetic!

I only have 50 people who have taken the poll so far, I'd be embarrased to show it to the Division of Wildlife at this point, it just shows hunters are apathetic and don't give hoot. I guess it shows we value bickering amongst ourselves more then anything else.

All I am asking is that you take 5 minutes, read the proposal and take the poll. It might ensure your grandkids can hunt some day....

I really don't want to stand up in front of everyone at these presentations and make a fool of myself to get this done, but I don't really see anyone else stepping up to the plate either. The direction we're headed with all this voucher crap is BS. Giving away 25% of the antelope tags on the eastern plains and then killing all the bulls in 10 & 1 for the sake of access & money is just plain ridiculous.

Sorry to vent, but my goodness I can't understand why this topic would rate so low....
