nevada deer 101-108 early

With a bow or rifle? I drew with a bow and i have heard that its really hard hunting. Not to mention that there are like 2000 other hunters hunting that unit during the three seasons so. . Good luck though cause ive heard there are really big bucks up there.

There are almost 2000 hunters on the early rifle hunt alone, but your right, there are some big bucks.Starman,I would first get some maps and decide where you want to start.Be prepared to hike on that hunt. You need to get away from the people. If you get out and explore, you will see bucks anywhere you go.There are big bucks all over that unit.Harrison Pass gets hit really hard that time of year.Secret Pass or the East Humboldt range may be a good place to start.Access through ranches is tough, but there is plenty of places to go.I also drew the early archery tag and huntn30inchers is right,it's not an easy hunt.I was hoping to get the late tag again, but am looking forward to hunting bucks in velvet again and also taking my stepson with me this time.I havent got to take him with me very much.At least the camping will be nice.

There is a lot of good huntin to be had in that unit. The majority of hunters stay near the roads and major trails. If you're willing to do some packing and a little bush wacking, you'll find good bucks with little pressure, despite the 2000 other hunters.

As nevadaguy2 and rackster stated above, if your willing to walk the hunting can be outstanding. I would start in Lamoille canyon. Pick a spot and climb to the top of the mountains and ridges and start glassing and watch all of the other hunters drive by on the roads while you have a big buck centered in your spotting scope. goodluck. fatrooster.

3000 hunters and 5000000000 jr either sex deer hunters!
Nevada best "sucker" tag.... pick something high and start climbing..because its not going to happend any where near an
road! good luck

Are you kidding me? Try mule deer hunting in a state like Oregon where almost every unit in the state is a zoo. At least the unit 10 area is 3 times the size of most units in Oregon. for those of us feeling stoked about having a tag to hunt in NV it may not be the best of tags but you can't tell me that there aren't some big bucks that come out those units - there are an awful lot of acres there...

Don't worry guys, you all have a great hunt ahead. Rack master, you crack me up. Chris, I failed to draw, but that won't keep me off the mountain, if I find something big I'll let Brandon know.

I've ridden every canyon and looked under every tree and rock on those mountains. If you're going in on foot you BETTER be in shape.
Good luck

Star. I hunted the early rifle in 05 and late archery in 04. From your post I believe you drew the early RIFLE hunt. I sent you a PM.

How was the archery situation up there? I drew early archery and was just wondering what the cover is like and what kind of shots im looking at. I might even turn all my pins up 10 yards cause I highly doubt that im getting to 20. Do you have any ideas on where I should start? im not at all afraid to hike and really want to get a good one so. . . Any help would be awesome.

You might what to start shooting out alot far for that area, you will be shooting uphill and downhill so get ready for that.

"I highly doubt that im getting to 20."

With all do politeness...thats a bunch of BS. Take your time. Go slow. Keep the wind in your face. Remove your boots and walk in your socks at the terminus of your stalk. If your knees aren't rubber and your heart isn't wanting to jump out of your eye-sockets, you should probably give up hunting or your too far away. LOL.

I'm damn near 50 with bad knees and get danger close to all kinds of critters. Its a bit more thrilling than "ranging" the animals and then pinning them. Find out what 20 yards looks like...make your stalk.

A-10 is very steep and very hot in early archery season. Get in shape and stay hydrated. Be willing to get off the truck seat or the ATV and get back into where most folks won't go. Should be a good hunt for you.

My brother and i hunted it last year saw 10 to 20 bucks a day most we didnt go after because of their size.We hunted the early bow season and if we were patient in our stalking we would get to 20 yards depending on the conditions so its not that hard you just need to be patiant and pick the right one to go after. But I will tell you one thing I will never pack a meat deer out of there again its all or nothing.

Star, In my PM i couldn't recall the name of the canyon next to Mahogany. Its North Furloung. A little lake and good water through the canyon and some feed for your stock. I packed in 180 lbs and was glad I did because we got 20" of snow on Sun night. If that happens, move down to just above the snow line. Good Luck.
