I'm looking to buy 2 unit 53 Colorodo tags for the 10/21/ to 10/29 hunt or 11/4 to 11/10 hunt. I'm hoping the outfitter or rancher who sells them to me can give me an idea of where to hunt. My brother got drawn for this unit and I'd like to go with him and hunt. Anybody know how much these tags go for or someone who might have some I would appreciate it. I'd also appreciate receiving any info on where to hunt. Thanks.

I have two #53 second season permits I would be willing to sell for $2000 each or I also have 2 archery permits for the same price,or I would trade any of these towards 3rd season unit #53 vouchers, call Dennis if your interested (970)-234-0797

2000.00 for a second season unit 53 tag ? Damn I'm in the wrong business. I'll give you 50.00 for each. Thanks.

I was paying $500 a permit last few years, and have never sold a permit except for what I have in them but the brokers have driven the prices sky high in units like #53 that take 0 points for residents to draw for the early season, I have to sell a couple to be able to afford a 3rd season permit!

FYI

For all of you out there looking to buy landowner vouchers, BUYER BE AWARE. There have been new changes to the landowner voucher system. Basically the transfer of a voucher is written permission to hunt the land for which the voucher was issued for. If you find someone violating this rule please inform our DOW or local DOW LEO.

Unfortunately this is just a bandaid on a much larger problem. The tag brokers and landowners who want to find loopholes will.

Here's the change: (Taken from the L/O apps)

"IMPORTANT - DUE TO RECENT REGULATORY CHANGES, THE FOLLOWING CHANGES HAVE OCCURED TO THE PRIORITY LANDOWNER PREFERENCE SYSTEM:

The transfer of a voucher shall constitute permission to hunt on the land for which the voucher was awarded.

Any landowner who does not follow the regulations will be disqualified from participating in any landowner preference program during their next year of eligibility or application.

SUBMITTING ANY APPLICATION OR LEFTOVER REQUEST FORM ENCLOSED IN THIS PACKET CONSTITUTES AGREEMENT WITH THESE CHANGES."

Hopefully this helps get a few of you on private ground.

For those of you looking for vouchers, ebay will be flooded with them starting next weekend. The guys selling them right now don't have them in hand yet but are pretty sure what they drew.

Have a good hunt.

The Landowner can call the division of wildlife and they will tell them what they drew, there is a guy on ebay already advertising that he does not have land that you can hunt with his permits, I hope your right on the enforcement of this new wording, but I have my doubts.........

Are you saying that if you buy a landowner tag or voucher you can only hunt that private ranch and not the public land. Thanks for your responses.

No they can hunt private and public land, but the Landowner whose name is on the voucher must let the purchaser of the license hunt their private property......

LAST EDITED ON Jun-15-06 AT 06:30PM (MST)[p]How can he stop you? What is he gonna do, charge you with tresspass? No one would take the case. Of course a locked gate can stop a vehicle, but you can always climb a gate/fence. And if they did succeed in keeping you off, you can probably still use the tag, but sue them for your money back for breech of contract. Should make it interesting this year.

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

Some guys make you sign a affidavit that you wont hunt there land before they sell it to you....the DOW definately needs to close some loop holes on these permits....

Vouchers have no identification on them identifying the owner who applied for the tags. Unless there is a change this year in the voucher from last year you will not know who applied for the tag. if you buy them from a "tag pimp" you are not going to know where they came from. It seems there was a lot of protest to the tags in the last year and the only thing I can see that happened was that the sales or prices are not posted anywhere in public. Pennington seems to be the only one posting prices. You know have to call and put a down payment without guarantee of tag or price. I have emailed several people with requests for prices and there replys are all vague. It looks like all that the new rules accomplished is that they have gone "underground" trying to hide the prices and how many are sold. Most thought that the new rule would stop "tag pimping", however it appears that there are more people trying to sell them this year with strong demand again. The only safe way to buy a voucher is deal with the landowner directly, if you can find them.

I have heard a rumor that they all have the landowner identified on them now, I have not seen this for myself, so we will see.

All landowner vouchers have the name of the landowner and the name of the property if one exists. It is up to the hunter to contact landowner to get any info on property boundaries and access.

The new system requires the landowner to sign the voucher to legally transfer it. By signing the landowner is stating that he/she is giving permission to access/hunt the land the voucher was issued for. A signed voucher is WRITTEN permission to hunt.

Be aware of your rights. Hold the Tag Brokers to it. Of course there are going to be lawbreakers. The risk of losing the high dollar vouchers may make landowners think twice about letting a Tag Broker handle their tags.

On the positive side of the landowner vouchers, I know many landowners that get tags and GIVE them to friends and family. They have also always provided access to hunters. This was the intent of the program.

Not trying to start a debate over tag brokers, vouchers, etc. Just want people to know their rights.

If you want to hunt with your brother buy an elk tag and save your money. I would consider 53 "average" hunting at best. Sure there are monster bucks in the unit but it is heavily hunted public land, big ones are very, very few and very far between. Up until the voucher hype of the last two years it was an easy draw second choice unit. Just because its next to 54 doesn't mean the quality is anything close. If you buy a voucher bring a backpack full of rabbit's feet and horseshoes because you'll need them.

SOME OF THE VOUCHER TAG GUYS ARE NORTORIOUS FOR TELLING HUNTERS HOW GREAT A UNIT IS JUST BECAUSE IT BORDERS A GREAT UNIT. I TOLD ONE VOUCHER GUY, THEN WHY DOES ONE UNIT TAKE 9 POINTS....AND THE OTHER UNIT TAKES 2 POINTS. THEY WILL ALWAYS SAY THERE ARE 200 BNC BUCKS IN THERE, YEA THERE ARE 200BNC BUCKS IN MOST UNITS.....THEY CAN BE HARD TO FIND. BUT THEY ACT LIKE IS A SLAM DUNK FOR 200BNC BUCKS. NOT ALL VOUCHER GUYS ARE LIKE THIS, SOME ARE VERY REALISTIC/ AND HONEST. YD.
