Peter Arnett makes me sick.

Arnett was similarly sympathetic during and after the 1991 Gulf War. His newest displays of "journalistic integrity" are even more pathetic. Imagine it, our bravest men and women are putting their lives in harm's way so Arnett can sit across the table from an Iraqi military official and spout words that, I submit, give "aid and comfort" to our enemies!
If Arnett wants to pen an article for the Op/ED pages of a newspaper, that's his business; but to assert the opinions he did today on Iraqi tv is inexcuseable. Inexcuseable with this caveat, if he had a gun to his head off camera then all bets are off.
There are two journalists missing in Baghdad that belong to a Washington press, where are they? Why was FOX tossed from Baghdad in February? Was it because the Iraqi regime wanted no part of Fox's "Fair and Balanced" "We report, you decide" style?
I know this for myself, I'll need a better explaination of Arnett's remarks than the weak response NBC has issued to this point if I'm to ever watch their network again.

I do agree with you. msnbc is the worst news of them all. It is one sided and really hates the one party and it shows really bad. I tried to write them this morning but they make it very difficult to get in touch with. I have wrote them many times about how they are one sided and never once did I get a responce from them. I alwasy get a responce from the other networks. I won't even watch that chanel any more. So many good news chanels on the air. We need to get this message out to more people. Katie is so bad at times I can hardly look at her.

did you see nbc and national geographic fired him? canned his butt. if you remember backa few years, he got fired by another news agency (cnn?) for making up a story about the macvsog guys using risin gas on gooks. guy ain't got no credibilty at all now.

FIRED!!!

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- NBC announced Monday that both NBC and National Geographic severed their relationships with veteran war correspondent Peter Arnett.

In an interview that aired on Iraqi TV Sunday, Arnett said that the U.S. "war plan has failed because of Iraqi resistance. Now they are trying to write another war plan. Clearly, the American war planners misjudged the determination of the Iraqi forces."

On Sunday, NBC News had issued a statement supporting Arnett, saying that Arnett gave the interview to Iraqi TV as a "professional courtesy" and that his remarks "were analytical in nature and were not intended to be anything more."

But a day later, NBC issued a different statement. "It was wrong for him to grant an interview to state-run Iraqi TV, especially in a time of war."

Arnett is not an NBC News reporter but an employee of the MSNBC show, "National Geographic Explorer," according to The Associated Press. The network began airing Arnett's reports after NBC reporters evacuated Baghdad.

Monday morning, Arnett appeared on NBC's Today Show and apologized for his comments.

"I want to apologize to the American people for clearly making a misjudgment over the weekend by giving an interview to Iraqi Television," said Arnett, who added that what he said in the interview was "what we all know about the war."

Maybe he could get a job with the Dixie Chicks, he could be in charge of Public Relations.

How about a "BUNKER BUSTER" for Peter? As a matter of "PROFESSIONAL COURTESY!" Why would an honorable American give anything to the Iraq government out of professional courtesy? Maybe we should relinquish Peter's short lived U.S. citizenship!

In addition let me share an e-mail I received a few days ago.

Letter from radio station website in Lubbock, TX, home of the Dixie Chick that spewed forth remarks about our president:
Name: LT Layne McDowell
Comment:
An open letter to the Dixie Chicks:
Earlier this week, while performing in London, you stated that you were ashamed that our President is from your home state. I wonder if you realized how many Americans would be listening. This American was listening. This Texan is ashamed that you come from my state. I serve my country as an officer in the United States Navy. Specifically, I fly F-14 Tomcats off carriers around the world, executing the missions that preserve the very freedom you claim to exercise.
I have proudly fought for my country in the skies over Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan without regret. Though I may disagree wholeheartedly with your comments, I will defend to the death your right to say them, in America. But for you to travel to a foreign land and publicly criticize our Commander in Chief is cowardice behavior. Would you have so willingly made those comments while performing for a patriotic, flag-waving crowd of Texans in Lubbock. I would imagine not. How dare you pocket profits off songs about soldiers, their deaths and patriotism while criticizing their
Commander in Chief abroad, even while they prepare to give their lives to ensure your own freedom of speech.
Please ask yourself, what have you done to deserve that sacrifice? Do not try to justify your comments by claiming that you made them only because you care about innocent lives.
Never once in our history have we committed troops to war for the purpose of taking innocent lives. We do it to protect innocent lives, even yours. If the world leaders of the late 1930's had the vision and courage of our present Commander in Chief, perhaps the evil men who caused the death of millions in WWII would have never had the opportunity to harm a soul. The potential loss of millions of lives in the future at the hands of today's evil men necessitate action. In a separate correspondence, I am returning to you each and every Dixie Chicks CD and cassette that I have ever purchased. Never again will I allow my funds to support your behavior. All you have done is to add your name to a growing list of American "Celebrities" who have failed to realize that they have obtained their successes on the backs of the American blue-collar workers such as our servicemen and women. To Natalie Maines: This Texan, this American will continue to risk his life to guarantee your freedoms. What will you do to deserve it?
LT Layne McDowell
United States Navy

I support LT Layne McDowell and the entire United States Military. Including the Commander in Chief and his staff.
I'm Proud to be an American.

It's too bad Sgt. Jim Cawley gave the ultimate sacrifice before hearing Arnett's comments, I'm sure F Company would be happy to show him their resolve upon entering Baghdad.

Jim, we miss you and we WILL take care of your family. Your brothers and sisters in blue will NOT surrender our values or patriotism to the sickening opinions of a few Arnetts. You should see all the flags flying today around the city for your boys. It would make you proud to be a Marine, proud to be a father, so proud to be a police officer.

My friend and fellow officer Staff Sgt. James W. Cawley was killed in action at An Nasiriyah during a firefight Saturday. He leaves behind his 2 young sons, a loving wife of Japanese descent, and 463 brothers and sisters in blue, all of whom miss him dearly.

Pray for them, friends, pray they kick ass soon and come home to their families.

P, Im so sorry to hear of your fellow officer and friends death...I thank him and his family for his bravery and commitment to all of us Americans..We all owe him for our freedom.. I would have been proud to have known him...I have never been so proud to be an American.. My prayers go out to his family.. Thanks, Keith 46

Pred'

It's hard to hold 'em back I think you know what I'm talkin about.. I greave for his kids...God Bless 'em all....I would have been proud to call him my friend...Amen...

LAST EDITED ON Apr-01-03 AT 00:54AM (MST)[p] That's a tough one to hear Predator. My thoughts and prayers to your fallen brother's family and friends. I pray the light of his life will be part of the brillance that will one day illuminate Baghdad and the rest of Iraq in the bright light of freedom.

As an aside, Arnett was canned by NBC and the National Geographic only to be hired by the extreme liberal London rag, The Daily Mirror, where Arnett promptly recanted his apology. He's a dink, a man of no moral fiber, and destined to be a vagabond in this great country.

Predator,
We are saddened by the news you bring. My family constitantly prays for our troops and their families, their sacrifices are not forgotten in our household.

As for the Dixie Chicks - we won't forget either.
