I drew this unit 4 years ago right after all of the fires up in that area. Got lucky and we drew Beulah again this year. Does anyone know that area, and how has the area changed since the fire.
Last time we hunted public land northeast of major burn areas, saw alot of deer...up to 135 per day, but no really big bucks.

I too got drawn for 165 this year. It is a big area and the fire burned quite a bit of timber, in fact certain spots were closed because of falling trees. My counts were about the same as yours.

I remember that most of the timber areas that were burnt they had closed. I would think that these areas are now open, and with new growth that will be good for the deer herd.

Most all the forest was open last year when I was elk hunting, but they still had the "falling tree" signs posted. Lots of new growth and food under the standing snags. The areas further south near the Malheur River or to the west were burned pretty badly.
We saw loads of game and there was plenty of water. Hope it is the same this fall...
Good luck to ya.
