Hello All-

With max elk points I was attempting to draw the Rochelle's unit, but the odds are ridiculous. I'm now setting my sights on a premium draw Unit 100 tag.

Question-2010 unit 100 draw was about 10% for the premium max point pool...any guesses on what the 2011 draw chance will be for max point holders??

I'd guess that the odds will rise slightly, but not drastically.

I'd rather do a DIY and harvest a 300" bull than pay a guide.

I think the only other idea is trying for a unit 7 tag and pay a trespass fee and try to harvest a better bull on a pay/access hunt.

I also have max pts along with wife and son.ive put them in for 100 and 31,the odds about the same, they suck.I was thinkin the same thing about puttin in for area 7 for me and see how it goes and put wife in for 100.area100 and 31 have same class of bulls and very easy access, thats why the odss are so bad ,we might be waiting ten more years to draw 31 or 100.thats 1000.00 cost for points.thats expensive, for a 300 bull. But im with you i want to draw something quick,i just did alot of research on area7 and if you archery hunt you can have a pretty good hunt.but riflr hunters is a joke unless you are on private ground, and most places charge 5-8 grand.i have only found 2-3 tress pass fee places on area 7.i hope theres more.cause thats what im probably goin to go for in 2011 is area 7.Your chance of killing a bull in the 350 range or bigger are on area 7 atleast and not much over 330 on 100 or 31 in my opinion.

Thxs ElkNR-

I think we're on the same page....I wish max points allowed for a few more options, but the more I think about it, there are a ton of places in WY to take a 300" 6x6...but I agree with the ease of unit 100 w/access. I've been milling with the idea of hunting the bighorns (unit 38) as well, but I have 3 buddies that are sitting on 2 points and we can use those points as a group after I draw a premium solo tag on my own. We'll pool those points together after my points go to 0 and then go as a group to unit 38 with an average of 2 points between us. Anyway, unit 7 always has a good bow hunt, but the private accsss makes it tougher. Anyway, good luck and I hope we draw a unit 100 tag!

Hello Robb-

I enjoy a backcountry experience, but being solo I set my sights on units with access....like 100 and 38....all have no griz or wolves either. What is the situation in the 60 units listed above? Is the terrain "rolling" country with roads, or steep backcountry stuff. Also, I really like staying away from dark timber in general. I hunt a few spots DIY in CO that offer more oak scrub, aspen, and 20% dark timber so it allows for great glassing. I'm also a NR so I cant go in wilderness if the 60 units have that. I know unit 100 has a ton of roads (as does 38) but there are still places to hike into and get away from the road hunters without being in the middle of no where.

61 has more than the rest but not really very much in the others......

The late hunts would be to die for with the snow coming!

Just tossing a few idea's around with ya....
