I drew a Co Plains M-loader tag for units 093-097-098-100 for the Oct season. I am hunting with Scott Limmer and Commanche Wilderness - I know Scott runs a great outfit and produces some big bucks.

What do you guys think of the units and how big of a buck do you think is a real expectation to get a shot at during that time? I will only have about 5 days to hunt...thanks in advance...

Tim,

I drive thorugh that country a bit. It's wide-open spaces and not an abundance of deer. But it is well amnaged and has trophy potential. You're going with a solid outfitter. But it won't be a "slam dunk" to get a big buck. There just are not many there.

You'll just have to know your standards. Set them in advance and shoot the first acceptable buck you can get on. I have a friend that went with another solid outfitter in that area last year after 4-5 years of building points. The biggest buck he saw was a 160 class 24" 4 point. He passed and came home empty.

It's a fun place to hunt. I like that spot and stalk wide open way of hunting. Hunt hard and stay focused and you could get a brute. But the're not in every draw.

Good hunting.

Tim, Most of those areas that Scott Limmer hunts are quality areas ,A lot will depend on how much moisture they have this year.(As Far As Size) You will certainly have a great hunt either way!!. Scott is one of the premier outfitters in Colorado. If anyone can put you on nice deer it will be him. With out going overboard its possible to Tag a deer in the upper 170 to 180 class!!!. Anything is possible!. Have a great hunt!! and Good Luck.

Thanks guys...

When Scott and I set this up, he told me he had properties there that should produce sightings of 180+ bucks each day. It is a lot different seeing them and getting shots at them with a nonscoped M-loader. I appreciate the feedback. A 180+ mulie is my number 1 N Am priority right now, and I am hoping this hunt will be the one to produce it. I get home from this one for 1 day and am then going to Alberta for their mulie opener. Between the two, I hope this is the year.

There are some tremendous bucks out in that country. I would not be dissapointed if you did not see a 180" every day because you will be hunting country that has the ability to produce the buck of a lifetime. Its dry as a bone out in that country right now, my uncle farms out between Wray and Holyoke and he says that its as bad as he has ever seen it right now. They did get a few big thunderstorms on Tuesday of last week though. Good luck on your hunt! Also, how many points did it take for that hunt?
