thinking about exploring the phelps creek/spider meadows area for a possible high hunt. wondering if anybody has any experience in there. just wondering if it would be worth it. no specifics or honey holes needed.
thanks

It is only 5 miles in so I think there are plenty of people in there. The medow is pretty wide open but the bucks are mostly up on the ridges. Lots of slide alder on the lower parts of the hills also. DT

This applies to most places. Pick one of the side creeks that drains the main spur, one that's trailess and steep but offers an alpine basin even if smallish. Hike trailess up till you break to the sub alpine, find a place to spike out and hunt that sub to alpine area up to the ridge in the morning. Hike up in the dark and glass the light. People say there's dudes everywhere. They're everywhere easy to get to. If you thought to base in spider, you'll have company. Remember that drop camps and guide camps don't go anywhere horses don't.
